Distribution

Greece, Spain, Italy, Corsica, Crete, Portugal, Sardinia, Sicily, France, Yugoslavia. [1].
Albania, Balearic Islands, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Gibraltar, Greece (mainland), Dodecanese Islands, Spain (mainland), Italy (mainland), Cyprus, Corsica, Crete, Portugal (mainland), Sardinia, North Aegean, Sicily, France (mainland), Croatia, Yugoslavia. [10].
Range: eastern Mediterranean coast of Greece, the former Yugoslavia and eastern Italy, including the islands. To the west it is less common in Spain and Portugal is almost absent. [5].

Imago Habitus and Differences from alike species

A very large for Europe butterfly - the length of the front wing may exceed 4 cm wingspan females can reach 10 cm. The top of the wings is dark brown on the underside allocated contrasting white stripe and 4 blue spot with two tails on each of the rear fenders. [5].

Venues: warm sea coast at an altitude of 500 m, floodplain forests and parklands. [5].

Larvae Charaxes jasius brilliant green, with small yellow spots. At the head 4 process, and on the back of 2 large green spots. [5].

Larva food plants / other food objects

Arbutus unedo, also Osyris, Brachychiton, Citrus sinensis, Citrus nobilis, Prunus persica, Prunus armericana, Rhamnus, Vaccinium corymbosum, Laurus nobilis, Annona cherimola. [28].
The caterpillars feed on the large-fruited strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo). [5].

Larva lifespan

The first generation larvae live from September to April, the second - from June to July. [5].

Overwintering stage

Winters caterpillar on evergreens. [5].
