- Переднее крыло — до 2,1 см длиной. Окраска коричнево-красная (часто в Южной Германии) или коричнево-серая. Характерным признаком может служить заполненное беловатым или желтоватым пигментом почковидное пятно, рядом с которым всегда имеются два небольших белых пятнышка. [85].

- Предпочитает открытые местности, но не боится и закрытых. [85].

- Бабочка летает с сентября по май с перерывом на зимнюю спячку, причем до последнего не уходит на зимовку, а появляется очень рано весной, с первыми теплыми днями. [85].
