Imago Habitus and Differences from alike species

Длина передних крыльев крепкоголовки — 1,5 см. По темно-коричневому фону разбросаны многочисленные рыжие пятна. Самцы серее самок. Бабочки, летающие в высокогорье, как правило, меньше по размеру и темнее окрашены, чем равнинные экземпляры. Такая форма носит название Carterocephalus palaemon f. freyi Hellw. [85].
