Alas, he didn't grow anything. Feet are not hair or nails wink.gif. It just quietly faded away, unable to hunt or feed. I wonder who took off his legs.

Not me, not me, if that's what you're implying. I only photograph insects from a distance. I love them in my own wink.gifway

05.11.2009 23:45, Victor Titov

Only, it is unlikely that such a name will be decent to say in public. smile.gif

Well, it depends on what kind of people! We're not really ferrets here either shuffle.gif

God forbid you should think that! You don't look like a sadistic experimenter. I wasn't alluding to anyone, just wondering what kind of predator is this? Although, occasionally, yes, there are such disgustingly inquisitive inquisitive kids... Their energy, but for peaceful purposes!

06.11.2009 8:27, okoem

Well, it has a Russian name, I would like to learn it and remember it.

Well, then you'll have to memorize Latin umnik.gif, thanks for the advice! Only, it is unlikely that such a name will be decent to say in public. smile.gif

Well, if you really want to - translate the Latin species name into Russian-you will get the Transcaucasian mantissmile.gif, but do not forget that it will have nothing to do with the actual NAME of the species and you can use it for yourself and those "people" in which the Latin may be "indecent" smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif
And above the post on the okoem link, another one was invented - the Caucasian praying mantis. That's how Russian names "multiply". Until Latin is called-go, guess what kind of speech!

Thank you very much. I understand now. The fact is that I was at the exhibition of insects of the Crimea, and there I learned that in the Crimea the most common 2 species of praying mantis, common mantis and mantis "Caucasian". So I wanted to understand what kind of species I met. It's all clear to me now!

Tell me, can a mantis bite a person, for example, on the finger?

Thank you, there are more views on this site than on the exhibition. It's always interesting to learn something new.

Yes, it can, of course. Another question is how to bite! Most predatory insects, when you pick them up, try to "bite", but in 99% of cases it ends with a pinch on the skin (like a praying mantis) and no more. Although wasps, bees and some bedbugs can cause a lot of unpleasant sensations.

And what kind of exhibition is this, if not a secret? Where even about the Crimean praying mantises really know nothing? In fact, all 6 types of praying mantises are common in the Crimea, but with one caveat-you need to know the places wink.gif

08.11.2009 17:34, ButterflyGirl

In the Nikitsky Garden, but perhaps this was information about large species of praying mantises, which is why two species were identified.

You're right, you need to know the places. And tell me, where can I find a Raspberry ordinary?

Thank you. They are found in the vicinity of the Zion reservoir, Transcaucasia. One specimen (very large) is probably a female and now lives in my insectarium.

Oh, something is doubtful that this is proscarabaeus! The antennae are almost not curved, and even in autumn!!!

It seems that I have already put up for the definition of this animal today, but what does not happen after the new year, it may seem. I don't know who it is. The paws look like a predatory bug. Or maybe not him. Who knows?

I post photos of a mysterious freshwater animal made by Grigory Stavrov. Here is the information that he reported: "The total length of the body is 40-60cm, the front of the larva of a floating beetle bordered with teeth-scimitars of 10cm approximately, went into the water instantly, after a flash and a ripple of water, saw twice, slightly different shade, (2007 April June Bashkiria)"

to VBoris
is the larvae of some kiwis (Julidae), but not S. kessleri. Gray bobcat is a fairly recognizable animal. For an accurate determination, you need material (and take more, you need a sexually mature male). If you want, send it to us.
