well, why....some species can be recognized externally, and some even in the hands of holding, do not come to an exact definition. wink.gif confused.gif

Hello. Today I met a bee on the ground near a small river that flows through the clay banks. Help me with the name. By the way, almost there I met cones made of soil particles, which, it seems, also belonged to bees.

Help identify the horntail. Georgia, Abastumani (found dead)

(?) Urocerus gigas ♀. Why the question mark at the beginning - in Georgia, 3 representatives of the genus seem to be marked: U. augur, U. sah and U. argonautarum. The first two don't fit, and I didn't find a description or photo of the third one. Can someone confirm that the picture shows a female U. gigas.

Delivery with pine boards is likely, we once had this.

Maybe, but to do this, I would like to hear the opinion of a specialist in species affiliation, since from the determinant it turns out that the females of U. gigas and U. argonautarum are practically indistinguishable from each other (pp. 50-53) https://djvu.online/file/wyqvGZtTRo4EO?fbcl...wog9f74fQ7pXiCY

Here-here there are photos of the female of this Argonaut of yours. IMHO unlike. Although, maybe they are very variable in color, I do not know. But it looks very much like Gigas.

This copy is currently drying on the straightener. I will return to it, probably only in the winter. You will need to soak and spread the mandibles.
I caught a similar bee in Moscow today. It is about 11 mm long.
I tried to remove all the parts you listed. Is it possible to tell something about its species from these photos?

As far as I know, Formica (Coptoformica) exsecta or Formica (Coptoformica) manchu (F. longiceps Dlussky, 1964) can be found in Yakutia with spaced hairs along the edge of the first tergite. According to Kupyanskaya, they differ in hairs on the sides and underside of the head. In exsecta, the hairs are semi - distant, in manchu (F. longiceps) - adjacent. I know the former well, but I haven't seen the latter. I can't identify it.

In the previous photo there was a nomad with two-pronged mandibles, the choice is small.
Here the mandibles are normal, there are many such types.
You need at least a clear photo of the spikes on the back of the shin - their size, color, length, shape, number, distance between each other, None of this is visible.
The same applies to the upper lip - you need to understand whether it is completely dotted or there are unpunctured areas, whether there are teeth on it or not, if so, how much and how they are located.

chebur, the first thing that catches your eye in your pictures is very little light! You can't remove collectible items in this light. you can't take pictures. If a bright light is applied, for example, from a flash, and the problem is not solved, increase the shutter speed by first firmly fixing the camera relative to the insect. And always keep the ISO at a minimum - then maybe the spikes will "cut through" and the dotted line on the upper lip smile.gif

Hello. The day before yesterday I took a picture of a bee flying with a piece of leaf. Is it from the Andrenidae?
Didn't she carve it herself? And what plants are used? A female? And then what does she do with it? Is it possible to determine the gender?

Don't give a damn! (sorry,if the form of my answer is ugly, - catch the pointsmile.gif
collect better than 150 pieces of nomad over the summer - we'll give it to a specialist, who will determine everything and add points to the MO fauna on the case. and so...and doubts..and why... Locally, there are 5-10 species at once.
Picking out the" tail " of a male bee is the right thing to do! and it is done easily. you can leave it protruding from the outside of the abdomen.

Here-such I came across the other day on the inflorescences of milkweed of the steppe sawflies, masterfully disguised as stinging/parasitic.

From a distance , he looks like a German male, and just like that, he climbs for a long time in the depths of the inflorescence before getting out on the flower. HZ, what is the meaning of such mimicry, males w without a sting, females without wings... MB. cross mimicry with pompilids, among them there are also similar colors and behavior.

With this, I was sure that I was photographing a female ichneumonid, or rather specifically an ichneumon, when I pressed the trigger. Just looking at the photo, I realized the catch: white spots at the base of the abdomen perfectly imitate the stalk! And the behavior is exactly the same as that of ichneumons, even the antennae with characteristic white markings just as often shake! here the meaning of mimicry is obvious - many ichneumonids noticeably sting.

I've long been used to black-and-yellow-striped sawflies, there are a lot of them, but it turns out that the ingenuity of nature is much more diverse.

Everything was shot in Donetsk last week.
