the find itself is super. Can you somehow relate them to the host ant? I mean, throw one of Lasius around and take a picture? Something I don't come across anything orthopteroid in anthills (((((

A couple of Cyprus straight-winged birds:

1. Some kind of Oedipoda? According to the lists, there can be caerulescens and miniata. I don't remember the color of the wings shuffle.gif

picture: acrid22601.jpg

2. This one was identified as Aiolopus thalassinus. Similar?

picture: acrid20605.jpg

18.01.2013 18:03, PVOzerski

The lower one is indeed from the same tribe Epacromiini as Aiolopus, but since the fauna is still not ours...

If not Aiolopus, then only Duroniella laticornis or Duroniella lucasii are still listed from this tribe. They don't seem to be very similar.

18.01.2013 21:46, PVOzerski

Yes, I did not say that this is not Aiolopus smile.gifQuite similar. If the fauna were ours, it would be confirmed. This animal does not look like Duroniella at all. From our genera, it would be either Aiolopus or Epacromius, and it looks more like Aiolopus.

I also have some kind of tetrix, right? The crest on the pronotum is well defined. T. bipunctata? Filmed in the Vladimir region. Unfortunately, I didn't shoot it, and I don't have a better photo...

I think that he is - if the mustache is in the right angle.

19.01.2013 15:49, Mistes

Yes, it seems-the tendril can be seen from the beginning to the end, it is somewhere under 60 degrees-it should not be significantly longer. Thanks! smile.gif

19.01.2013 16:48, PVOzerski

There it is necessary not to look at the length of the antennae as such, but the proportions of its segments in the middle part. In bipunctata, the ratio of segment length to width is approximately 2: 1; in tenuicornis, it is significantly larger.

To catch up with the conversation about myrmycophilic crickets: these are the animals that happened to be found in a wintering colony of hefty such matte-black ants, under a rotten pine log. I would like to know if possible what both are called.

Genus Oecanthus. Most likely, our native (southern European Russia, Ukraine). Oe. pellucens.

17.02.2013 16:56, Anax chernobila

Or rather, how to determine?

17.02.2013 17:26, PVOzerski

I'm afraid it's only based on the original descriptions. However, most of the species can be discarded immediately: Nearctic, Africa, Australia, India... In principle, the geographical distribution of different species of the genus can be viewed here: http://orthoptera.speciesfile.org/Common/b...nNameID=1128062 In addition to Oe. pellucens, I would also like to mention Oe. dulcisonans Gorochov, 1993 (I don't know the exact morphology of the area).

In fact, only Gorokhov can tell you this - but he doesn't go to the forum. Try searching for his article. And I Googled this for you:

Hello to all forum participants!

So, yesterday in the north-west of Thailand, near the border with Burma, I caught such a miracle right in the hotel. The size is huge, 15 centimeters. Today, he enjoyed a watermelon rind lunch. Help me determine if it is possible to take it out in hand luggage to Russia?

You can take it out. I personally exported insects from Thailand, Bulgaria and Turkey.... smuggled in a backpack. Just put it in a suitcase to move freely (after feeding it) and all their equipment will not notice anything. Enjoy your flight.
