Good afternoon! Please help me identify such a miracle. In length, without a mustache, approximately 9 cm. The photo was taken on August 4 in the steppes of the north-east of the Samara region.

So far, it turns out that this is Paradrymadusa picta.

You unfold its wings (or at least lift the elytra slightly), and then it will immediately be clear to Iris, or someone else. According to this photo, you can only say with confidence that this is a praying mantis.

I confirm, Iris polystictica, there are no others in the Russian Federation.

07.09.2016 11:43, ИНО

And by what signs, if not a secret, did you determine that this is an iris in general?

07.09.2016 18:37, Dracus

Well, I've just seen a lot of them, and I'd be surprised if it's Mantis.
The pronotum is noticeably more concave after supracoxal expansion than in the mantis, the white border runs along the subcoste and radius, and not along the bone, as in brown mantis, and it is small in size, compared to the average mantis of the same latitude.

Can you tell me why this female Tettigonia viridissima has yellow legs? Is it a subspecies, or do they have no subspecies? The female is not old, just mid-August. Penza region.

Dear colleagues! Please help us identify our erect wing. We couldn't handle the qualifiers. Caught in Donetsk, in the village behind the railway station. Very necessary for the delivery of the collection! shuffle.gif

This is hardly a subspecies. Most likely just a variation of the color scheme. I've even seen completely beige tettigonias among the usual green ones in the same places.

I think that experts will agree smile.gif

Many orthopteroids, including tettigonia, are able to abort the body color during life to match the colors of the environment. This one, apparently, faded to an imago among a mottled mixture of green and yellowed vegetation (just in the photo this is visible). Business as usual.

Not in concrete, there's sand between the tiles. Maybe it will work. In any case, grass and mushrooms in such places make their way with a bang. I just don't understand why this photo was posted in three topics, despite the fact that the first one gave the correct answer.

Top photo (5QOCQ3IQNsI) - Chrysochraon dispar, female.
The last two (7aV7cFLkle4, dDP8R2TFTOQ) are male Chorthippus from the albomarginatus group (there may be several species on the territory of Western Ukraine that differ mainly in the mating ritual - Ch. albomarginatus, Ch. oschei, and in principle there may be some others).
The rest are Chorthippus from the biguttulus group, females and larvae. This group is no simpler than the albomarginatus group, and it is not reliably determined by females (and not always by males). If the material was from northwestern Russia, I would say that adult females are similar to Ch. brunneus (and even then, only presumably), but for the Ukrainian material I would be wary of saying even this.

Judging by this site http://www.faunaeur.org/distribution.php?c...rm=species_list , there are only 15 species of Chorthippus sp. found in Ukraine, so the choice is small; let them be the ones you specified: Chorthippus albomarginatus and Chorthippus biguttulus. Here in the Ternopil region, they are quite common (but I couldn't figure out who it is). Although, once, I came across some unique ones, as for me: Roeseliana roeselii https://pp.vk.me/c636126/v636126846/18101/sfnJpHXRR3E.jpg and Decticus verrucivorus https://pp.vk.me/c633626/v633626846/35f85/eOZQljCQOGg.jpg
Ah, I haven't had these photos identified since the summer, so... thank you very much!!!

No, Ruslan, it's too risky. Then take a look at this site: http://orthoptera.speciesfile.org/Common/b...nNameID=1105750 - make sure that the fauna of Ukraine is much richer.

Wow, I've long wanted to find some sensible source on the types of Ukraine.
I don't know how to use it yet (specifically, how to select a specific country), but, nevertheless, thank you for the site!
For the total number of insects and other arthropods, I use http://www.biolib.cz/en/taxon/id14923/ Although, it seems that not all views are included there either...

As for the search by country , I'm not sure that the site Orthoptera Species File has it, but the descriptions of the species contain maps (however, there are varying degrees of detail and reliability). In general, this site claims to be such an electronic catalog of the world's erect-winged fauna, something is better done there, something is worse, and something is completely controversial. But it is certainly much fuller than biolib.cz.

There is a great resource on diptera diptera.info for example. And on the same domain as for the straight-winged ones, it seems that some attempts were made to do something about other units, but I don't know how successful they were.

For straight-winged projects, the root page of the Species File Online projects:

http://polyneoptera.speciesfile.org/Common...nNameID=1158087

In principle, there is a tree for all arthropods, but there are no projects for most of them (yet?).
