For Liparus CRW_50260.jpg — (118.51 k) - Polita-type Oodescelis

This is not an Oodescelis of the polita type, but an Oodescelis of the melas type.

Oodescelis polita size = 8.4-10 mm
Oodescelis melas size = 11.5-13 mm

This is more likely not a weevil, but a pipe weevil-Dryophthoridae of
some kind Sphenophorus, possibly striatopunctatus-a Timothy Weevil. Beetles of this genus are associated with various cereals, larvae develop in rhizomes

Yes, it is Sphenophorus (=Calandra) striatopunctatus (Goeze, 1777), which occurs b.h. in May.
Of this genus, there are still a couple of species-in the" green "it says "south", but I found a bunch of species "from the south" in our country, including it is worth looking at the coast (because they develop on the rhizomes of reeds) of the same only slightly larger. good luck! I'll be looking at my own place too wink.gif

It looks like mine. This view is definitely southern, and there will be more. I flew to the current fermented sap of a tree (introduced from India) in Mexico. When landing (rather hard), I scooped up the foam with elite-I had to wash it later. You don't know what his name is? Possibly related to agave.

well then from the ratio of the cephalotube to the pronotum it turns out abbreviatus

well then from the ratio of the cephalotube to the pronotum we get abbreviatus

That's what I said)))
Just this year I saw it for the first time in the Saratov region, under cow droppings on the shore of the lake (staritsa river). According to literature data, it develops on the roots of reeds, of which there were quite a few...

I do not know the American fauna, but it is probably Scyphophorus acupunctatus, it definitely develops on agave (they even call it Sisal Weevil, i.e. sisal weevil, sisal is a fiber obtained from agave), and it looks similar.
