Darwin is in the middle of the Dry season - it hasn't rained for almost two months, it's very cool at night, there are no more insects, even fewer of them. And if the absence of mosquitoes and sand flies is only pleasing, then the absence of beetles and butterflies upsets me. Not even dragonflies.

Here a couple of weeks ago I found an unknown creature with a wonderful character in the kitchen at night, the creature did not run away and did not fly away, but sat in a large glass and probably felt like Dita von Teese, no less.

Awesome photos! The creature is a male Tenodera sp., most likely T. australasiae (without looking at the genitals, it is difficult to say for sure )

With the genitals, yes, I forgot something and did not capture it, I stared into my eyes. I was sure that this is a girl, you need to somehow wean yourself to humanize insects.

Hawk moth bindweed.
It is very widespread, one of the few species that exists in Australia and Europe.
And indeed a lady, males are slightly more variegated and have twice as large antennae.

Thank you. I always want to take pictures of insects, and the lens catches all the people-people-people... sometimes crocodiles.

There's a body. It was beautiful, though not at all alive.

Oh, I've just remembered! Last week I photographed rocks at low tide, usually these rocks are under water, but here I was lucky - a big low tide and you can get into the bay. I saw a butterfly out of the corner of my eye.



But while I was changing the lens, this and that capricious creature flew higher into the rocks, so there is only a bad unconvincing crop from a single frame.
