Good day to all forum participants! I want to present you a report on fishing in the Shuisky district of the Ivanovo region on Sunday (April 27) in the vicinity of the village of Petrilovo and from Sunday to Tuesday (April 27 - 29) in the vicinity of the village of Krasnoarmeyskoye...

What an attractive riding swamp! TEMPUS, I wonder if the mother-of-pearl Boloria eunomia, B. aquilonaris are found there in summer?

What an attractive riding swamp! TEMPUS, I wonder if there are mother-of-pearl Boloria eunomia, B. aquilonaris?

Yes, both of these species are often found in both upland swamps (one in the vicinity of the village of Petrilovo, the other in the vicinity of the village of Polki). In general, at various times in these swamps I met the following species of marsh lepidoptera::

Riding swamp in the vicinity of Polki village (only cranberries are plentiful, blueberries are scarce):
Boloria eunomia
B. aquilonaris
Plebejus idas
Coranarta cordigera
Syngrapha microgamma
Arichanna melanaria
Rhagades pruni

Riding swamp in the vicinity of the village of Petrilovo (lots of cranberries and blueberries):
Boloria eunomia
B. aquilonaris
Colias palaeno
Plebejus optilete
Plebejus idas
Coranarta cordigera
Arichanna melanaria
Carsia sororiata
Rhagades pruni

Yes, and eneis Jutta should probably be there, a wonderful report, good finds)))

Finding Oeneis jutta in the Ivanovo region is my long-standing, but, unfortunately, not yet a pipe dream. Although by all indications, this species should occur in my area. In general, I have big problems with collecting marsh marigolds. For four consecutive seasons, even the relatively banal hayloft species Coenonympha tullia and Coenonympha hero have not been collected. As for the hayfields, I will most likely solve this problem this year, as over the winter I found out specific places where these species were previously collected in the Ivanovo region, and this season I will go specifically to reliably known points. O. jutta also has some ideas. In the Yuzhsky district of the Ivanovo region, there is the Vanyukovsky swamp - a large and powerful upper swamp, an analogue of the Batkovsky swamp in the Sergiev Posad district of the Moscow region. That's where O. jutta should probably meet. I plan to visit this place in mid-May.

Just lovely reports, thank you. Zavra and I will go to the Vladimir region to catch Cicindela sylvatica and Gynaephora silenitica. Wish us luck: It is necessary, really. beer.gif

We worked together today with Dima (aka Black Coleopter) and went to the area I have been developing for the second season to put soil traps, pick the bark, and look for the aforementioned insects. Gynaephora silenitica was never found, but Cicindela sylvatica each collected one specimen. As it turns out, the beetle is not so numerous there. There are many common Cicindela hybrida and Cicindela campestris, while Cicindela sylvatica is isolated and occurs locally in only one place.
I want to offer some photos from today's trip.

May Day "demonstration" with a full layout. Purpose: survey of protected areas in the Yaroslavl region: 1. Karachunovo swamp; 2. Bogoyavlenskoe swamp with a lake and the Yukhot River flowing out of it (in the lower reaches of which Vasily Feoktistov visited) and the search for Red Books.
This area is "legendary" - it is believed that evil spirits "play" here-no wonder the village of Igrishchi is located nearby. About the Epiphany churchyard, which is located near the Epiphany swamp, they say that the cemetery is "undead" (i.e. vampires)buried.
Stop 1-survey of the Yukhoti Valley flowing out of the Karachun swamp.
picture: __________1.jpg, here I set traps - as a result, the point of Carabus menetriesi...
After bypassing Karachunovo swamp, I went to the Bogoyavlenskoe swamp / lake, where I spent the night.

On the way back, I was going to visit Karachunovo swamp again, but without success, the area lived up to its name. "Karachun" has come to my new boots...
Among the entomological finds of the trip are springwort, xanthomelas, raspberries, from an interesting beetle: Meloe brevicollis, Ampedus (several species), Hololepta plana, and a bunch of small things that can be disassembled, mounted and determined...
From non-entomological sources - the discovery of anemone oak and elm smooth (the points of which from this area were unknown to our Boltaniki

On May 1, I went to the village to start the next season of agricultural work and decided to sit with a light bulb if the weather allows. by 8 pm, a huge cloud appeared from the sunset side, which was clearly going to disrupt all my plans, but I decided to sit until livonet! as a result, the season still opened, although if not for the terrible wind, I think it would have been better) As a result, Cleora cinctaria, Clostera curtula, Egira conspicillaris, Lycia zonaria, Orthosia gothica, Xylena vetusta, some Ennomos or Selenia and some other scoops arrived before 0:15. And at 0: 15, a torrential rain began and I had to collect my belongings and sleep, but I was still satisfied!

In the Vladimir region last year, the first of May 19 collected: http://molbiol.ru/forums/index.php?showtop...dpost&p=1408228 It looks like everything has turned upside down......
I'll finish it. Now there is already a Large Pine Zlatka got out: the first 2 copies. they were seen on April 21 and May 2, I saw her in flight. Strange things are happening, in short.

Saratov region, Tatishchevsky district, Storozhevka village district, 4. V. 2014

Today I made a solo trip to the vicinity of S. Storozhevka.
In the morning it was quite cool and a strong wind was blowing, but by lunchtime the weather played out!!!
I found a beam with a blooming Salix sp. (I would be grateful if someone can determine the view). On it, I collected a pair of Acalyptus carpini, one Lyparus palustris and Tachyergus sigma.
Then I came across a dark Nonea (Nonea pulla), began to pick under it and accidentally pulled it out))) In the root neck there were larvae (most likely not yet described) of the weevil Mogulones dimidiatus and a dead dry female (unfortunately, it was blown away by a gust of wind). I've unearthed almost two dozen nonea plants, but I've only found one mogulon. But I was very happy - a long-standing dream came true!
Then I went to Latukhino for a salt spring, but I didn't catch anything special there. In total, the walk took almost 8 hours. As a working day)))

On Friday (May 2), I went for a few hours for a walk in the country (Ivanovsky district, near the village of Afanasovo). He set himself the goal of collecting females of the variegated moth (Araschnia levana), as well as both species of early spring pigeons of both sexes (Celastrina argiolus and Callophrys rubi). I also wanted to catch male red peacock eyes (Aglia tau). The goal was not fully fulfilled, it can be said that most of it was not fulfilled. The weather, which was far from the best, was the biggest obstacle: it was cool, a strong wind was blowing, the sun was covered by clouds most of the time, and sunny windows were rare. All this directly affected the activity of lepidoptera, which were sluggish and inactive. My route was as follows: at first I followed the edge of the railway track to the turnoff to the village of Malinka, but turned in the opposite direction, to the village of Afanasovo, walked along a forest clearing to an anthropogenic dry meadow (such as a former, abandoned agricultural field) behind the village of Afanasovo, after which I walked there for some time. The biotopes I encountered on my way, in addition to the aforementioned meadow, were mixed forests of various types, including a variety of combinations of tree species, including, in some places, oak and lime trees. Females of A. levana could not be collected, only one male was found on the road mud when passing along the railway track. Only four males of Celastrina argiolus were collected from pigeons.Callophrys rubi met only one female of completely substandard quality (broken and worn) during the entire route, which I did not take. But there were plenty of fresh whiteflies. Pieris napi, Anthocharis cardamines и Leptidea sp. met in large numbers everywhere. There was also one Pieris brassicae, which, unfortunately, was a shame to miss. Previously, this type - agricultural pest-was everywhere in bulk, it was not a problem to collect. But, in recent years, for some reason in the middle zone of Russia cabbage have become very rare, you will not find it in the daytime with fire. It was all the more disappointing to miss this copy. Also, from the dirt road passing through the meadow, a spring bird suddenly took off. I thought for a moment that this year's spring girls were all right, but it's not like that. It turned out to be absolutely fresh, as if just emerged from the pupa, female Archiearis parthenias. Unfortunately, we did not encounter any mottled lepidoptera with diurnal activity (A. tau, Endromis versicolora).

Since my last visit, the landscape of this area has changed a lot. All the undergrowth of deciduous trees (birch, aspen, various types of willows) along the railway track was cut down. In one place, active logging is underway. mad.gif Also this year, arsonists of grass were particularly distinguished. mad.gif Burned part of the meadow in the vicinity of the village of Afanasovo. In other words, it is the part where every year there were brown thickheads (Erynnis tages) - a very rare species in my area, known from the Ivanovo region only from two points. Now it looks like there is one less dot. mad.gif It is now unknown whether E. tages will ever occur again in this area.

Indeed, cabbage plants have practically disappeared in our country as well. Apparently, the active treatment of fields with chemicals affected.
A beautiful flowering specimen of wolf's bast is shown in one of the frames. Unfortunately, this is very rare in our area.

From Monday (May 5) to early Wednesday morning (May 7) Again I went to the dacha in the Shuisky district of the Ivanovo region. I must say that this trip turned out to be extremely unsuccessful, perhaps the most unsuccessful in the last two or three years. The reason for this was the ugly, disgusting weather that was established in my region (and not only in mine) these days.
All day Monday (May 5) it rained with varying degrees of intensity, at some moments a slight drizzle, at others it turned into a solid downpour in a wall, then again reduced the intensity to drizzle, but did not stop at all. Given these circumstances and realizing that the maximum I can expect on this day is to collect lepidoptera for the light , I was in no hurry to leave the city, and left only in the middle of the day. In the village of Krasnoarmeyskoye, respectively, arrived in the late afternoon. While walking from the bus stop from the village of Sergeyevo to the village of Krasnoarmeyskoye, I managed to fully experience all the vagaries of nature. I got pretty wet in the rain, although this is not particularly critical, because in such cases I always keep two spare sets of clothes at the dacha. Much more trouble was caused by the strong biting wind, as well as the fact that it was cold that day.
By nine o'clock in the evening, the rain had stopped, so I decided to try fishing for the light. But the rain had stopped, and the strong, cold wind had not abated. At some points, the gusts were so strong that it seemed to me that now the screen would simply be blown away, and the lamp would be knocked to the ground. Fortunately, this did not happen. As for the actual fishing, only three early spring scoops arrived, there were not even small moths. The first is the female Orthosia gracilis. The second one is Cerastis rubricosa, but worn, and not really needed, I didn't take it. The third dustpan did not fly up to the screen, loomed somewhere in the bushes and flew away. I finished fishing, tired of fighting the wind, at eleven.
In the first half of the next day - Tuesday (May 6), I made an attempt to leave the house for a walk somewhere not far from the village. The attempt was extremely unsuccessful. Although in some moments it was not bad - there were long sunny windows and warmer than on Monday, but still the strong wind did not go anywhere and regularly did its dirty work. Nothing flew at all, not even snow whites (Pieridae) and wintering Nymphalidae species. When I came to the forest, the weather suddenly changed. A large cloud covered the sky, and it began to rain again. I had to go home immediately, almost running. But soon the rain stopped, and there were still sunny windows during the day. However, subsequent sortie attempts also failed.
Tuesday night was even worse than Monday night because it was colder. In fact, only one dustpan arrived at the light. It looks like something from Conistra sp., but it's not very accurate, I didn't have time to see it properly, because the butterfly made several circles around the lamp and sat down in the grass far from the screen, I couldn't find it. In fact, fishing for light this evening did without any trophies at all.
On Wednesday, May 7, I didn't see the point in staying at the dacha any longer, so I took the very first bus and went back to the city.

In fact, the entire catch in three days was made up of only one butterfly:

Today we went to the Krasnoarmeysky district. We wandered between the stop point 55 km and the village of Rybushka. First we went along the Goryuchki River, and then along the Karamysh River. The weather (as usual) failed, most of the day was overcast and a strong gusty wind blew, which prevented mowing and tore the net out of his hands.
There were many dorcadins of 3 types running along the roads, as well as 3-4 types of T-shirts.
The behavior of black-bodied blaps was unusual. Some of them have already drowned on the bank of the Karamysh River, while others persistently tried to drown themselves. It turned out to be hairworms( see photo), parasitic worms that control the behavior of their victims.
I even recorded a short video with hairy men - http://vk.com/video20739738_168273575 (watch only on an empty stomach!)

We returned from our annual trip to the Volga Delta for the May holidays. Nothing interesting and new in entomological terms is no longer found. This year, it is worth noting that spring has been delayed in the Volgograd and Astrakhan regions. They thought that in this regard, the spins had not yet flown away - but no, they were no longer there. By tradition, the first stop was on the Ilovlya River, during the day the traditional polyxenes and raspberries were crawling, some caterpillars were crawling, irises and steppe cherries were blooming, at night it was raining, warm, but very poor arrival, without anything new. Then we moved to the Kamyzyaksky district, the water is given late this year, the bay of yerikov and kanav passed before our eyes, the fish was a school of pearls, but there was no need for it, because they did not have time to eat what they caught with rods. There were very few insects, the weather was cool for this time, this region - from 23 to 28 in the afternoon, from 10 to 15 at night. There were no aerogenoz females, and they could not collect eggs for Pasha. Barbels appeared only on the last day on thistle. On the way back, we stopped again at Ilovla, arriving in the late afternoon, were attacked by thousands of mosquitoes, which quickly disappeared as soon as the sun hid behind the chalk hills. By 23 o'clock on the screen was a couple of elm tufts and all. At 23.00, when the temperature dropped to zero degrees, gebs flew, in total, about a hundred of them were counted in the morning, although the temperature dropped to minus 4 degrees. The white coating on the box is frost. The hebes were also white in the morning, but after the sun hit them, they came to life and began to spread out. From the beetles that night came two scarabs and a green dung beetle.

we returned from a trip to the "Kulikovsky forest" = Pervomaisky reserve(Lipetsk region). we went to admire tau (exclusively for scientific purposes!), but we were caught by three brutal men on a UAZ truck, who sent us to....shorter than we could have driven in the Prior. they were asked to wait for them for half an hour so that they could return and draw up an act. at 17: 00, there were quite a lot of tau males flying. not one was caught. Zorek got off on the females and strangled another horse, Soluta. I had to retreat to the other end of the region, to the bagulnikovoe swamp in the Dobrovsky district. the biomass is depressingly small, except for mosquitoesfrown.gif, klosters and other crested animals. of the carabuses, there are very few arcensis, one glabratus and one goldfinch.
If I meet a deer or a pig, I'll poke you in the eye with a net! mad.gif spread pihhhsia! where you don't stop by, there are feeders everywhere mad.gif

Good day to all forum participants. Yesterday (Saturday, May 10) I went for one day to Gavrilovo-Posadsky district of the Ivanovo region, to see what is flying from bulavous lepidoptera at this time in these parts. We visited the surrounding areas of the following settlements: Osanovets village, Rykovo village, Zagorye village, Dubenki village. In total, the length of the route was about 25 kilometers! I left Ivanovo very early in the morning, you can say almost at night (at 4: 50) on the suburban train Ivanovo-Alexandrov, at 8:00 I got off the train on the Osanovets railway platform. The weather was not pleasant at first, as it was warm, but overcast, the sun was covered with light clouds. The weather cleared up only by 10: 30. To be fair, the most acceptable weather for me did not last long on this day, only three and a half hours - from 10: 30 to 14: 00. After two o'clock in the afternoon, cirrus clouds appeared in large numbers in the sky, they greatly reduced the brightness of the sun's glow, and towards the end of the trip, the sky completely changed heavy clouds closed in and rain began to fall. But it was warm-plus 18-20 degrees, so the insects were active.
From my previous trips, I know that the most interesting places are located in the vicinity of the village of Dubenki, so when I got off the train, I immediately went there, passing the village of Rykovo and the village of Zagorye on my way. Euthrix potatoria caterpillars were often found on the grass along the roadsides. After passing the village of Rykovo, I met the first butterfly. It turned out to be the moth Ematurga atomaria. As I approached the village of Dubenki, passing the village of Zagorje, the sky cleared, the sun came out, and the overwintering Nymphalidae, primarily Aglais io and Aglais urticae, began their flights. The road turned to the village of Zagorje, but it was not on my way, so to get to the right places, I decided to go through the meadow along the bank of a small river. The sky finally cleared of clouds, whiteflies Pieris napi and Leptidea sp. began to fly.. Coming out to the village of Dubenki, I passed through it and headed towards the forest. There was one very interesting dry meadow, which I discovered earlier during a previous trip to this place in May 2012. I went there, intending to explore it. The forest area in the vicinity of the village of Dubenki, I must say, is also very interesting, not every day you meet a combination of oaks and pines. There was a large puddle at the turn, and as I passed it, the first two butterflies that had been collected that day took off from the mud of the road. They were a gorgeous, large, excellent quality male Celastrina argiolus and a female Araschnia levana. Later, on the outskirts of the forest, he collected another male A. levana. In general, when I passed by the forest, Anthocharis cardamines were added to the set of whiteflies mentioned above, but I didn't need them.
When I got to the dry meadow I was interested in, I started walking around it, examining it. For quite a long time, nothing interesting came across. All the same Pieris napi and Leptidea sp flew.. This annoyed me, at some point I even wanted to turn around in the opposite direction. It's a good thing I didn't. At some point, I decided to explore a small ravine that runs along the side of a dry meadow, it just beckoned me with the riot and greenery of the grass growing there. On the slope of the ravine, I noticed a white squirrel, significantly different from all those seen earlier in the day. First of all, the flight was very different: Pieris napi and Leptidea sp. they flew sluggishly, melancholy, and the flight of this butterfly was fast and sharp, characteristic more of the jaundice (Colias sp.), and not of the whiteflies of the subfamily Pierinae. I ran away, caught up with a butterfly, caught it, looked into the net, and there - Euchloe ausonia!!! Here is a godsend so a godsend, for the sake of only one of this kind it was worth going. As I understand it, this is the northernmost area of this species, north of Gavrilovo - Posadsky district of the Ivanovo region, E. ausonia is not found anywhere. In general, E. ausonia was previously known from the Gavrilovo-Posadsky district of the Ivanovo region, it was found there by my fellow countryman and like - minded person with a passion for lepidopterology Oleg Lebedev (nickname on this forum OlegSSSR), but in a slightly different place-in the vicinity of the village of Zagorye. Later, on a trip in May 2012, I confirmed the presence of E. ausonia at this point, and even later, in July 2012 (during the second generation), Oleg and I found this species in the vicinity of the village of Rykovo and confirmed it again for the vicinity of the village of Zagorye. And now the area occupied by the E. ausonia population has been increased again, including the surroundings of the village of Dubenki.
In a further study of the dry meadow, two more specimens of E. ausonia were collected, so that during the entire trip, three specimens (all males) were caught in about twelve hours (from 8:00 to 19:25). Compared to previous trips to the Gavrilovo - Posadsky district, this is a very small number. In each of the two trips in 2012, for exactly the same time, 10 to 15 specimens of this species were collected, despite the fact that not all the specimens seen were caught. On this trip, I saw three copies, and, as a matter of fact, I caught three copies. It is obvious that since the last trip in July 2012, the number of E. ausonia in the Gavrilovo-Posadsky district has dropped significantly. As I assume, this could happen due to the following reasons. First, the unfavorable conditions in winter. All winter there was little snow, but in January there were severe frosts (at night up to minus 30, during the day about minus 20). After all, E. ausonia is a typical steppe species and, therefore, thermophilic. In such a winter, he could simply spend a bad winter. Second, anthropogenic destruction of biotopes. The grass burners did their best. mad.gif The roadsides of all roads passing through agricultural fields were thoroughly burned, including the roadside of Osanovets - Rykovo - Zagorje, where E. ausonia was found on both trips in 2012, but not on this trip anymore. In addition, right in front of me, tractors drove through agricultural fields and sprayed some chemical rubbish (apparently from pests). mad.gif But maybe it's much simpler, and not so bad. Pieris napi, Anthocharis cardamines и Leptidea sp. all of them were already stale, with different degrees of damage, while all three specimens of E. ausonia were the freshest, almost perfect quality. Maybe it's just that in the Ivanovo region, E. ausonia flies out later than other whiteflies of the Pierinae subfamily, and, accordingly, I just went too early. However, one male had a defect that occurred as a result of unsuccessful breeding from the pupa, and one of its lower wings was slightly undecorated. But, since E. ausonia is a very rare species in the Ivanovo region, I did not throw away this specimen, I decided to put it on the underside.
I also caught one female A. cardamines during my tour of the dry meadow (I must say, this meadow is very large in area, and you can walk on it for hours). Thus, both species of sunbirds found in the central part of Russia in general and in the Ivanovo region in particular: common dawn (Anthocharis cardamines) and white dawn (Euchloe ausonia) - were collected in the same place at the same time.
Closer to two o'clock in the afternoon, when the sun was heavily blocked by cirrus clouds, I decided to go back to the railway station. I had a long way to go, and I was already pretty tired, so I decided to go back early. On the way back, I looked at the roadsides of Osanovets - Rykovo - Zagorye, but I didn't see anything else of interest. Only all the same species of whiteflies as before: P. napi and Leptidea sp., and the solitary moth Epirrhoe rivata / alternata. Hypoxystis pluviaria moth was also found in large numbers along the entire route.
I can't help but notice some oddities in the time of departure of some lepidopteran species this year. On the one hand, many species of lepidoptera this year fly out half a month or a month ahead of schedule. On the other hand, I haven't met any Papilio machaon yet this year. I also didn't see the Pyrgus malvae and Cupido argiades pigeons, although in this spring, they should have started flying long ago. The scoops Euclidia mi and Euclidia glyphica also did not fly out, and there were very few moths of E. rivata / alternata, E. atomaria, Chiasmia clathrata and Scopula immorata compared to previous seasons. This is all very strange.
In general, this trip was very difficult for me. First, very severe fatigue. Still, to walk about 25 kilometers in one day is no joke to you. Secondly, I unsuccessfully picked up my shoes, as a result of which I very much erased my feet, right down to bloody calluses. I feel that it will take me a long time to recover from this trip. In general, the Gavrilovo-Posadsky direction is the most difficult and difficult of those where I regularly go, trips there are always very difficult for me, mainly because of the very long distances that I have to overcome on foot. But I can't refuse to go there either – there are very interesting places, and there are species of lepidoptera that are not found in the rest of the Ivanovo region, and one of these species is E. ausonia. All the more valuable for me are the specimens collected with such difficulty.

Summer day on May 9, but with the usual spring rather strong wind. Massively blooming broom and apple trees begin to bloom. Первые Lycaena tityrus, Pyrgus malvae, Euclidia mi, Coenonympha pamphilus, Scotopteryx mucronata. Rare for me are Lampropteryx suffumata (No. 40) and Drepana curvatula (No. 42). All other common species mentioned in the May 1-3 report and Minoa murinata are found. The bronze bird that flew to the broom tree is completely indifferent to the ants that clung to it (No. 24). Acacia trees are still bare, just opening their buds, and have not yet gained their proper heat (No. 25).

May 12, a warm day with variable cloud cover and strong southwind. Apple trees, broom and mountain ash are in full bloom everywhere, and bird cherry is in full bloom in some places in the ravines. The butterfly species first encountered this spring are shown in frames 47, 56, 58 and 63. All other types found are the same as in the report dated May 1-3. In some places, there are a lot of May crunches, although in general their number this year is small. The most striking feature of this very early spring (the first xanthomelae and lemongrass flew on March 8) is the almost complete absence of mosquitoes (and small midges) throughout the warm period to date, even despite the past rains!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a birch stump. Just can't figure out if it's definitely dermestoides or another species? According to the determinant, it seems to come out flabellicornis, with sometimes on the forehead.

XS they seem to be dermestoides, but they usually come across on oak.

Good evening, everyone. Today, as planned, I went to my favorite places in the Vladimir region. The goal was to inspect the Cicindela sylvatica point again
Goal completed: one copy. collected and saw a few more.
I wandered through a nice forest, admired nature and saw a lot of interesting things.
I brought some photos and I want to offer them to your attention.

Strange, but I learned about this custom for the first time there. Has anyone ever heard of this?
I managed to find at least something:
