While some of us spend workdays playing busy bees, a group of kids, namely 20, together with their parents next-to-last Thursday all went over the Oxbow Eco-Center what's in Port St. Lucie, St. Lucie County, Florida (US). There they were greeted by... angry bee inspectors? No, just the nice and kind members of the St. Lucie West Garden Club.

Junior Butterfly Club was founded conjointly by the Oxbow Eco-Center and the St. Lucie West Garden Club. The butterfly club welcomes all children older than 5, to gather at 1 p. m. the second Thursday of each month at the Oxbow Eco-Center. What are they supposed to do there? To learn butterflies and make projects helping to learn them, and also to create a butterfly garden at the very eco-center.

Hard to say what and where we'll be doing next months, but kids are pretty sure to be occupied with arranging the garden, doing crafts to place some artwork in the garden afterwards, and with tagging and releasing butterflies for them to make their way further onward, across the America and all over the world.

It's also planned to keep a journal and, behind schedule, to be open to any ideas and suggestions that are very welcome there.

“We sort of make it up as we go. We want the kids to come up with ideas, too,” said Sandy Bogan, Environmental Education and Outreach coordinator with the Oxbow Eco-Center.
