The world-famous Taj Mahal mausoleum suffers from insects that leave excrement on the marble walls of the mosque. Chironomids Chironomus calligraphus leave black and green spots on the building's patterns, which turn a magnificent white marble "monument of love" into a dirty something.
According to local environmental activist Joshi, the reason for this is the Jumna River polluted with garbage, in which the fish that regulates the insect population has died out. The activist sent a petition to the National Green Tribunal with concerns about the future of the Taj Mahal, whose beauty is in question. Joshi suggests a simple solution: clean up the river to restore the old ecological balance.
Workers are constantly cleaning the walls, but the daily scraping of marble does not affect the drawing in the best way and can lead to a loss of gloss of the marble.
The Minister of Uttar Pradesh ordered officials to identify the causes of the disaster and eliminate them.
Insects clinging to the Taj Mahal are not the only problem: the monument is also polluted by the emissions of nearby industrial enterprises and an oil refining plant, which leave a plaque on the white marble. Archaeologists put special clay masks on the walls of the building. According to archaeologists, these compounds are traditionally used by Indian women in care to preserve the beauty of the skin.
