Habitus and Differences from alike species

  • Длина переднего крыла — от 2,4 до 2,8 см. На каждом крыле располагается от одного до двух глазков поверх желто-оранжевой полосы. Похожие на семелу виды обитают лишь в южной части ее ареала, делая точное определение вида несколько более сложным. В Ирландии обитают подвиды ssp. clarencis de Lattin и hibernica Hewarth (последний обнаружен здесь только в 1971 году). Для Англии характерен ssp. anglorum Verity. [85]. Peter Khramov.

  • Бабочки летают по теплым песчаным участкам на высоте до 2000 м, не возражают они и против каменистых мест, а также зарослей вереска, встречаются в городских парках, лесах. Часто отдыхают на коре деревьев, на земле, складывая при этом крылья таким образом, что заметить семел бывает непросто. Любят нектар чабреца, обращают внимание на деревья с вытекающим из них соком.
