The National Encyclopedia to Swedens Flora and Fauna

This series is the most ambitious natural history book project ever launched and will treat all known species of animals and plants from Sweden. Until further the volumes will also treat species from Finland, Denmark, Norway and Iceland. At the moment somewhat less than 60,000 species of organisms are known, from which more than half are insects. The series is planned to be published in about 120 volumes over the coming 20-25 years. Each volume is authored by leading experts, and the series is published with heavy subsidies from the Swedish parliament over the whole publishing period. This is the reason why the volumes can be sold at very moderate prices.

The 50,000 species which can be identified without highly advanced equipment will be described in detail, including information on distribution and biology. For most of them, distribution maps as well as illustrations e.g. watercolours will also be provided. The groups containing the remaining 10,000 species will be presented down to a suitable taxonomic level (e.g. families), with the species presented as checklists.The text is in Swedish, but for each species, key facts (summary) will be given in English. The many high quality illustrations, distribution maps and illustrated identification keys in both Swedish and English makes the series valuable for an international audience. For many insect groups, hardly any European identification literature is available, and therefore this Encyclopedia should especially be most important for anyone with an interest in European insects.

A great number of authors are needed to complete The Encyclopedia of Swedens Flora and Fauna. Texts will written by senior scientists and other species experts. Several species groups will often be included in one volume. If an author is not a professional taxonomist, he or she will co-operate with either domestic or international taxonomic experts.

Исаев А.Ю. Определитель жесткокрылых Среднего Поволжья (часть III. Polyphaga - Phytophaga). - Ульяновск, 2007 - 254 с. (Серия "Природа
Ульяновской области", вып. 14).
В книге разработаны и приведены определительные таблицы, по которым можно идентифицировать 1323 вида жесткокрылых, относящихся к 11 семействам. Территория, рассмотренная в определителе, охватывает Чувашскую Республику, Республику Татарстан, Ульяновскую и Самарскую области России. Для этого региона подобная работа выполнена впервые. На основании собственных исследований и литературных источников составлен полный перечень Phytophaga, отмеченных здесь за последние 100 лет. Определитель включает таблицы по всем видам группы, обнаруженным к настоящему времени в Среднем Поволжье, и представляет третью часть задуманного трехтомного издания (первая издана в 2002 году).
Ключи основаны главным образом на признаках наружной морфологии, что облегчает работу с книгой, не снижая ее научной ценности. Для большинства видов указаны кормовые растения (для некоторых - впервые). Книга иллюстрирована более чем 700 рисунками (из них 190 - авторские), сгруппированными в 141 таблицу.

Вот и до меня доехала посылка, содержащая 4 книжки: Исаев А.Ю. Определитель жесткокрылых Среднего Поволжья (часть III. Polyphaga - Phytophaga). - Ульяновск, 2007 - 254 с. (Серия "Природа Ульяновской области", вып. 14). Что я могу сказать? Книжка понравилась. В отличие от первой части про Adephaga, отпечатанной на скверной полупрозрачной бумажке и являющей собой не что иное, как тетрадку А4, причем без обложки, - эта похожа книжку. Лучше стала бумага, появилась полноценная обложка, хоть и мягкая. Большинство таблиц действительно новые, оригинальные, разработанные с нуля. Про жужелиц большая часть ключей была компиляцией с ключей "зеленого" или со статей - обзоров и соответстующих родов. Книга содержит много полностью оригинальных рисунков, среди которых есть и тотальные, выполненные некоторыми уважаемыми участниками форума

Однакож, смущает мелкота сих тоталов, вынуждающая порой судорожно припадать глазом к изображению. Не дело. Может, удастся рассмотреть изображение в полный рост?

Алексей, мы это заслужили, выкладывайте прямо на форуме! Не обошлось и без досадных опечаток. Сразу бросается в глаза, что подписи под многими рисунками безбожно перепутаны, посему для неподготовленных энтомологов чревато неприятностями. Для многих видов приводятся кормовые растения, и это существенно повышает ценность издания. Ключи по-исаевски добротны и интуитивно понятны, и это не может не радовать. Ах, да! Забыл сказать самое главное! Семейства жуков рассматриваются такие: листоеды, усачи, ну и конечно, самое основное и наиболее ценное - слоны, по которым и проведена большая часть весьма полезной творческой работы. Фактически, это единственный современный определитель слонов на русском языке, и это трудно недооценить. По крайней мере, в средней полосе России альтернативы изданию по этой группе я не вижу. Уп-с! Катя, прости, конечно, забыл короедов. Они там тоже есть, но оценить их исполнение мне сложно. В целом, на 4+, рекомендую.

Держу в руках последний (вообще!) том Определителя насекомых ДВ России (IV, вып. 5) - перепончатокрылые. Часть браконид, все ихневмониды, Halictidae (одно из последних, что написал Ю.А. Песенко, причем - и это впервые в определителях этого издания - приведена кладограмма), андрениды, апиды, трихограмматиды и все рогохвосты и пилильщики. Всего 3900 видов (286 новые для науки).

Жаль, что на этом заканчивается выпуск Определителя... А ведь по бабочкам ещё многое не вошло в него - большинство пядениц, а также медведицы, лимакодиды и совковидки. И в рамках определителя вроде не собираются рассматривать эти семейства. Почему, точно не знаю, были какие-то слухи, что связано это с финансированием

Держу в руках Определитель насекомых ДВ России (том IV, часть 1 1995г). В нём уже есть андрениды и апиды. Вот галиктид в нём и вправду нету. Вы не ошиблись насчёт андренид и апид?
Впрочем всё равно придется покупать. Думал там только наездники, решил не брать. С галиктидами придётся. Так что спасибо за информацию.
