auct. (abr. from lat. auctorum) — for authors, for different authors, i.e. this species is given by some authors under the name"_____", and accordingly this is not a synonym, but an erroneous cast under a different name, and of course there can be more than one such species.

Interestingly, in the catalog of weevils compiled by Zabaluev, on the ZIN website http://www.zin.ru/ANIMAliA/COlEOPTERA/rus/curcu_ru.htm planus is listed as a synonym for two species: carlinae (Olivier, 1807) and rusticanus Gyllenhal, 1835 . What does "auct."mean? combined with "= planus auct."?

I did this. And Zabaluev has a blooper in my opinion. Larinus planus (Fabricius, 1792) is a completely independent species, but not a synonym: http://www.biolib.cz/en/taxon/id1161077 / The synonyms are Curculio planus Fabricius, 1792 and this is probably a mess.
