Distribution

  • Regions of Russia: South of Primorsky Krai. Japan, Korea Peninsula. [263].

Imago Habitus and Differences from alike species

  • Disc of pronotum and elytra in thick erect hairs. Elytra in gray or brownish hairs with 3 transverse rows of black spots and a broad light blurred band behind the middle. The generation is biannual. [263].

General info about Imago

  • Mesosa Latr Body broad, medium size, usually black. The whiskers are significantly ( ♂ ) or barely ( ♀ ) longer than the body, with thick cilia on the inner side, and mottled. Pronotum narrower than the elytra, parallelilateral. The elytra are broad and their apices are rounded together. The legs are quite short. There are 4 species in the Russian Far East ( 37 in Japan) . Imago lifespan

  • Years in the first half of summer. It inhabits bird cherry, hornbeam, willow, oak, mountain elm. [263].

  • Larvae under bark and in wood. Pupate in wood in VIII. [263].

Overwintering stage

  • Young beetles undergo additional feeding after leaving and overwinter. [263].
