Imago Habitus and Differences from alike species

Длина переднего крыла — от 1,4 до 1,7 см. По сравнению с дубовым шелкопрядом сосновый «более серый», с более контрастным рисунком крыльев. [85].

Сосновый походный шелкопряд летает по сосновым лесам. Случаются массовые размножения. [85].

Так же как и гусеница Thaumetopoea processionea, личинка рассматриваемого вида шелкопрядов покрыта ядовитыми волосками, раздражающими животных и человека. Днем гусеницы находятся в гнезде, ночью строем идут к месту кормления. [85].
