Imago Habitus and Differences from alike species
- Крупный червонец, длина переднего крыла которого достигает 2 см. Самцы с огненно-красным верхом крыльев, самки заметно темнее, с черными точками на передних и сплошным черным полем на задних крыльях. Известны f. batava Obth. с 1 черной точкой на передних и характерной черной каймой на задних крыльях — из Нидерландов, f. rutilus Werneburg, 1864 с типичными для вида признаками — с юго-востока Центральной Европы.
