Distribution

  • Circumpolar view. North of the European part of Russia, Siberia to Chukotka and Wrangel Island, Altai, Eastern Sayan, Far East to the south to Primorsky Krai. North of North America, Sweden, Norway, Finland. Mongolia. It lives in a variety of flowing water bodies, in the north and in the mountains it is found in lakes. [214].

Imago Habitus and Differences from alike species

  • Relatively large species with a stocky body; male body length 5-7 mm, female 6-10 mm, male forewing length 5.5-8 mm, female 6.5-9 mm. The length of the body and wings is variable, often males and females have slightly shortened wings. The degree of shortening of the wings is different. Shortened - winged individuals predominate in most northern populations, while long-winged individuals predominate in the Sayan Mountains and Altai. Body color ranges from dark brown to black. [214].
