A male proserpine hawk moth was caught today on 20.05.2008 in Snezhinsk, Chelyabinsk region, during the day on a wall under a street lamp, where it apparently arrived at night.
Completely fresh. Previously, it was not registered in the north of the Chelyabinsk region.

Sfotkal killed, now straightened, when it dries I'll post a photo of the straightened one.
By the way, how to attach a photo?

Seryoga, about the fact that in Snezhinsk and even "in the north of the Chelyabinsk region was not marked" I do not agree with you, because Yaroslav (you know him) in June 1979 was fishing with us in Snezhinsk...

Oh!Ural residents began to catch up! beer.gif

As they say in such cases, the information requires confirmation because it was an oral message, and we did not see that proserpine of 1979.
But this capture is already a confirmation of the information, it lives in the Urals!

Serge, so what are the problems-let's go to Yarik's house and see, because I believe his words (you can even take a picture).... smile.gif

Isn't this a Red Book view by any chance?

Isn't this a Red Book view by any chance?

Yes. As far as I remember, it was listed in the Red Book of the Ukrainian SSR in 1980,and included in the section of supplements of the Red Book of the USSR. And it also seems to be registered in the Rostov region.

With such a rare find, there is no time for the Red Book, it is of scientific interest! The copy must be straightened and a label with the exact place of collection is drawn up.

It's a good thing that there are at least a lot of proserpines in Moscow, otherwise you read reports from the south, the Urals and the Far East and envy gnaws!

It was absolutely fresh, I still took it a little carelessly with my hands, it was hatched the day before the capture, but the fact that a female flew in last year and laid eggs is possible.

Can I find out where in Moscow THERE are MANY proserpines?

About the female very likely. Just generations of proserpine are bred in May-July.

Well, finally dealt with, attach a photo.

Come and see me in Brest. We have 20-40 caterpillars per day to collect is not a problem.

Well, in general, what to count a lot. At my dacha near Orekhov in early June, on a warm evening, you can catch a dozen at dusk over the "colored nettle". In Moscow itself, Kosino-Ukhtomskaya, of course, less, but in the season, again, when it's warm a couple of pieces per evening for sure.

Well, I caught another one today!!! Again the freshest, luxury quality! Caught today on 27.05.2011 in Snezhinsk, Chelyabinsk region, at 23.30. This is the second fresh spring specimen in 23 years of my observations. Another find (Valentina Zurilina) in Chelyabinsk and in the second half of summer. This is 130 km further south.

4.06.2011 In the north of the Chelyabinsk region near the village of Vishnevogorsk (15 km . from Snezhinsk) caught the third hawk moth Proserpine. There are probably several populations...The species seems to have been regularly encountered in recent years.

I have this hawk moth in my collection, it was caught in Cherkasy not active on strawberries in July at about 16 00 5 years ago, if I didn't mess up anything. if it works out, I'll come home and look for sure and post a photo and date

From the Moscow region. It's a bit rare, I'll say it or I don't catch it purposefully..
