How to collect caterpillars in Asia

Community and ForumInsects biology and faunisticsHow to collect caterpillars in Asia

AlisaInAsia, 16.10.2014 16:41

I often accidentally find caterpillars in a living or dead state on the road, near mangoes or other plants. I plan to live here for another year.
I came across a Common baron right near the house ( dead). Now I grow and feed mango leaves to an incomprehensible caterpillar, which was not identified on the forum.

I want to start breeding butterflies systematically, just for myself.
Questions:
- how to search for caterpillars? climb gnawed trees?
- if there is a settlement of tailor ants on the tree, then the probability of finding a caterpillar is zero?
- how to find out the hatching periods of caterpillars. about the common baron in Wikipedia is not written. in what season should I look for someone?
"can we lure them in somehow?"

- How to search for caterpillars depends on the type of caterpillar. For different groups of species - different collection methods. But, specifically on the tracks of Thailand, you are unlikely to have someone here who will tell you something special.
"I don't know about ants.
- The time of caterpillar release again depends on the type of caterpillar. IMHO, Wikipedia is not an assistant here, you need the appropriate scientific literature.
- It's probably impossible to lure caterpillars, at least I've never heard of them before.

if there are settlements of tailors, there are definitely Arhopala - you can only bring it out by cutting the nest -you will have to feed everything
