I apologize for creating a separate topic. But the weekend falls out and so I want to find Colias palaeno near Moscow in Tugolesye. Maybe someone caught there? I'm sure they did, of course. Interested in the timing of the summer well, can someone tell you the exact direction. Once again, I apologize for the impudent post)) I would be very grateful!))

We should go now. We have to fly all June.

Thank you Pavel, I plan to take off tomorrow, and the weather seems to want to become clear and warm)

Well, I went to Tugolesye Square, not fate with singe, did not fly out, from more or less bolotny, only Hero. So who will gather, I think by the 18th-20th number. Well, thank you all anyway))

You can also try it under the Taldom. It should also be very interesting there.
In Tugolesye, I saw a paleno both on a riding swamp (very frisky rare males), and a female feeding on a bindweed flower on a railway embankment. In general, males either fly around looking for females, or they can feed on yellow flowers like hawkweed or crossberry. Females prefer to feed on white flowers on roadsides, etc. - on hiccups, convolvulus.

In general, Tugolesye is funny because both marsh and fans of xerophilic associations fly together. For example, we caught a female myrmidon in that swamp. Everything is nearby.
By the way, how was it with the Myrmidons?

13.06.2015 20:58, STIGMA

Myrmidon darkness in the Woodlands, flying strongly, one female only took. I went to the nursery on Nerskaya Street on the 3rd and they were already active. Yes, apparently you need a little later, I thought maybe eunomia or Titania will meet, but it feels like the species are mixed, something is on time and something is late, dia is still Phoebe. And so the biotopes in tugolesye are good lingonberries, blueberries, kochi with mosses, everything is like in a good swamp. From the yolks still caught hyala, so I first took it for palenque. But not fate)

What a strange, bad year! Today is finally a warm day, and the first two palaenos were spotted by my friend in a swamp in the Vyborg direction, which is much north of the Moscow region. The mass was eunomia.

and something is late, dia still and Phoebe.

Phoebe collected on the 14th in the Vladimir region.. Distance approx. the same thing from Moscow only on a parallel branch. She was just starting to fly there, too.

Here's what I can say about dates in general.
I managed to collect a male myself on June 17-18 near Vyshny Volochok (Tver region). In the same place, a year later, on June 25, two females were collected, 2 males were met, or rather, one was caught and released due to shabbiness.

On June 25, both males and females were found in Tugolesye

I remember that Volume 1 of Tuzov et al. illustrated a male and female from the PTZ dated June 5 or 6, and either from June 11 or June 17.
In addition, you can view dates and points on the excellent site on lepidoptera of the Marine World.

I won't say that I have enough experience collecting paleno, but I don't think it's so numerous in its habitat. This is in contrast to myrmidon, which can be massive.

By the way, you can wait for females at the blueberry bushes.

Last year, the freshest male and female Colias palaeno were found on June 7 in the Batkovo swamp. Prior to this, in 2013, on June 24, a flown male was recorded in the north of the PTZ. No Colias palaeno was found in the Woodlands on 14.06.2013 and 01.07.2014, probably at this point the population is now in recession.

On June 14, C. palaeno was common between Voimezhny and Tugolesye-more than 100 in 4 hours. Moreover, the males are already elderly, they flew for at least a few days

Fedor, July 1 is probably too late for palaeno. Why would they be interested in moving in the direction of Voimezhny?

17.06.2015 22:13, Pavel Morozov

And closer to Voimezhnoye - quite suitable places-peat ponds, blueberries grow along the banks.

17.06.2015 22:17, Guest

On the other side of the road, just outside the village and along the power line-all blueberries with wild rosemary and blueberries.

17.06.2015 23:24, Pavel Morozov

is it beyond Voimezhny or beyond Tugolesye?
And from which side of the road, if you look in the direction of Cherustey?

18.06.2015 0:02, Guest

on the left side of Voimezhny in any direction - I went to Tugolesya. The lane of the power line is clearly visible in Google, but where it is very swampy, you can get around by road, quite passing along the glade

I was in Tugolesye today. In the clearing north of the village, indeed, Colias palaeno is common. At the same time, along the railway, as in previous times, not a single butterfly was found. For other types, see Fishing Reports.

Fedor, are they badly flown?
I mean, if you go there in a week, is it worth it?
In principle, our colias usually have years stretched out.

But eunomiya tried to catch near Glubokoe Lake last weekend - it was not.

18.06.2015 22:18, Guest

I guess they suspected me of forgery-I don't know T. Fyodor, but as far as I remember, butterflies flew in Tugolesye long before he was born and in much larger numbers-because of the complete desolation and lack of fucking country fields.
For some reason, the site does not recognize me-if anything-Alexey Zamesov

Pavel, did you meet Helle?
I also went to the vicinity of Glubokoe Lake on June 13 and didn't see any eunomies. The Helle was very sparse and decayed, although the forage plants were in full bloom. It turns out that this year Helle was already flying away by June 13, but eunomia has not yet taken off?

18.06.2015 22:52, Pavel Morozov

Not a, not caught ))

Is it also possible to take a ride to those parts smile.gif

On Glubokoe last Sunday already Klossiana titania flew out. It's too late for eunomia. I didn't catch the first male there until June 3rd. And last year the freshest female on May 31. Helle this year on Glubokoe is VERY popular from May 28-30.

And, by the way, about Paleno from PTZ. It was July 11. Caught the freshest pair and 2 slightly defective males. I was convinced by Samodurov's words that local butterflies have a brighter (especially female) pink border. This is in comparison with paleno from the Batkovsky swamp.

Yes, they've been flown around enough. If you need high-quality copies for the collection, then there was nothing to do there yesterday, and even more so in a week.

I went to the Batkovskoe swamp on June 20, Colias palaeno was caught in a single specimen, a male and quite fresh. And I caught it on the road, flying together with Aporia crataegi. I never saw a paleno in the swamp itself((I can't tell if it's too early or too late. Who can tell you? Or maybe they fly in some part of the swamp?

Perhaps it is, just" not there " looked.
Like many "swamp neighbors," paleno appears to be local, even within a particular swamp. This is also what V. S. Murzin wrote, saying that there is a lot of this "rarity" in one clearing, but not a single one in the neighboring one, which is exactly the same.
As an example - all of the above.
Another example: under Vyshny Volochok near the village of Terelesovsky there is a fairly extensive swamp. On one half, B. aquilonaris flies in large numbers, on the other half, there are none. But on the second more often comes across paleno.

Regarding the timing of the summer. In general, it is stretched for colias.
The female and male paleno that I met on June 25, 2009 were clearly fresh - the female had a border.
If you take myrmidon, then in the middle and second half of August on the Nerskaya there was plenty to choose from both males and females.

In any, if only in a light swamp, but not among the very frequent small pine trees. Of course, there is no need to search along the dark banks of Shusta. When the flowers of wild rosemary are still preserved, palaeno are common in the clearing (i.e., the winter garden that you were walking along, judging by the photo), as well as on the eastern side of the Big Lake (you didn't get there; and in general, you were more in the Yaroslavl region than in the Moscow region, judging by the scheme). In the second half of summer, they really often fly out of the swamp (mainly for food needs, since in the swamp just during the summer, good grub comes to naught, and blueberries and mother-of-pearl visit cranberries). In other swamps, palaeno behaves the same way, in my opinion. In the peatlands of the Taldomsky district, in the second half of June, it is already caught along roadsides (for example, the road to BAM), and even along the edge of the field (to the north of the swamp and woodlands), where a lot of everything blooms. And beyond Zhidovina, there is a gas clearing at her service, where there is enough blooming, so she doesn't really need the Danki - Igumnovo asphalt highway.
