Terms of ending the summer of giant Scolia

Community and ForumInsects biology and faunisticsTerms of ending the summer of giant Scolia

In connection with some statements by a prominent scientist smile.gifthat giant scolias, also known as maculata, cease their flight in the vicinity of Donetsk in mid-June.

Hence the interenso, who ever met the last giant scolias? Personally, I met them before the end of August in the south of the Mykolaiv region, and maybe in early September, I don't remember any more. Meetings in July are massive.

Rum, probably in different years,in different places can be shifted in time, and if there is some kind of observation, you can only judge by the fact of recorded observations, imho..

the other day I saw it, and at the beginning of the month, so "mid-June" is in flight, whether there are later-I didn't pay attention

Well, in principle, allegedly some observations were indicated, as well as the terms indicated in Wikipedia, although I just read it, so it's written here

"Imagos fly from late May to early June."

That is, just indicate the beginning of the period, and not the beginning/end smile.gif

According to my observations, the maximum number of giant scolias is observed in mid-July, we have quite a lot of them, up to 10-12 can be found on thistles or similar flowers within sight. So the dynamics of population decline and the appearance of the first scolias are clearly visible.
Interestingly, the giant scolia is listed in the CC, but the rhinoceros beetle is not, nedorobotka ))

Well, in general, they basically wrote the truth there, it's just that the scientist is slightly not a reader ))) And the timing of the torn meeting is strange, with the blooming of sage drooping, when the sage blooms and blooms, then there are still no scolias to be seen smile.gif

And this is a scolium to see that it crawled under the ground for larvae, or just crawled in the water?

But today's pictures of "dying scolias", which, according to the user ENO, are already disappearing in June, and according to him, the scolia posted by Nick444444 is already decrepit and cannot fly )))
Chet it doesn't look like they're senile, and it's already August 10 smile.gif
And this is not the second generation, because otherwise there would be males who are very numerous, and also feed on flowers, but they are not. So, these are female maculata of the first generation.

September is approaching, and they are not lost and do not disappear, but what kind of misfortune is this weep.gif
The picture was taken today ))

But there is no such thing as it was at the beginning of summer. I mean, when there were swarms of them flying around every tree stump in the city. Skolia was last seen on July 21 in the Sagas.

21.08.2015 22:11, Hierophis

Well, the males flew, it is clear that there are a lot of them, they are waiting there near the stumps when the females crawl out )) Males hatch much earlier in maculae.

In Volgograd, the male was seen on May 2. The last time I caught a female was on August 21.
