In some sources there are graphic symbols males (circle up arrow) and females (down arrow icon). Along with this more common letter of the U. What does it mean?

♂ OS - ♂ US - ♀ OS - ♀ US - is the upper side and lower side of the wing, Yuri, you're about sprashvaesh?

Alexander seems not quite of it. With male-female designations everything clear so designated not only butterflies.
But paired letters OS, and US, - somehow in general have never met, but also informative. If I understand correctly, the OS-is the upper side of the wings, and the US-ispod?
I asked about the letter U. I would like to find out what it stands for.It looks like an old, probably not used the designation-but still found. For example, such a designation is at the German entomologist seiza, I believe the 19th century. I got the impression that they used the letter U in the designation of the type specified is not exactly supposed. Just wanted to know more specific.

Entomologist Zajc Adalbert (Adalbert Seitz), and U, in this case, from the first letter of the word Unterseite - lower side (underside), is also found in combination Hinterflügel-Unterseite - underside of the rear wing.
