Gentlemen, There are many free GIS programs that can be used when composing area maps for print jobs. Here, for example, is the summary: http://geomatica.narod.ru/geomatica/soft/gis.html. Do you use any similar ones? Please recommend the best ones for your zoological practice.

I use DMAP.

The only drawback is that it doesn't work with UTM maps on multiple planes (you won't get" polyline " maps), so when mapping a region located in multiple planes (for example, the Moscow Region or the Central Russian Region), you have to use a distorted latitude-longitude map, i.e. the squares in the north and south are not equal in area.

Example: distribution of Eversmannia exornata in the Central Russian region:

Yes, but thank you all the same. Are vector maps in DMAP ready-made or inserted from the outside?

There is a small set, but it is better to make new ones yourself right here.

I want to draw everyone's attention to the August issue of the journal "Science and Life" - there is an interesting article (V. HORT, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences-Navigation for everyone.) — about maps, including three - dimensional ones, interesting links to Internet resources are given. ..
