Here is another case, not so random and lucky, but still... Beginning of July 2007, Tambov district on the bank of a pond with crucian carp, near the so-called Tambov forest smile.gif(i.e. a kilometer-long forest belt) along which galatea fly. Since they are very rare in the MO, I started chasing them. I caught eight pieces, decided that I would have enough, yes, even when I caught them, I noticed that they were very different, well, I think male/female. When I arrived in Moscow, I found that six of the eight galatians turned out to be Suvorov (russiae).

A similar thing happened to me on Lake Baikal. Collected from the flowers of Judolia sexmaculata. Ah dumyu-enough, and so uzzhe heap, need ostnovitsya. I came to Kiev and grabbed my head - among the dozens of specimens of Judolia sexmaculata, one Oedecnema gebleri was hidden. When I collected it, I didn't notice it!! I would have known sooner... In general lapuh... frown.gif smile.gif

Of the random finds this year, the most memorable was the capture of Apollo, and, most likely, an unknown population in our republic. We went by car to the pine forest in search of strawberries. They only knew the direction. We drove for a long time, and as a result, we didn't pick up any berries, but four Apollos ended up in my envelopes. I've never caught one before.

I noticed near the city a small forest pond with a diameter of 10 meters at most. I was going there to catch small water lovers and swimmers. I arrived and fished it out. It was getting late....I started getting ready to go home, got dressed, and sat on the bank smoking.. Then I see a copulating pair of ditiskus pop up 1.5 meters from the shore! There was no time to think-a reflex worked! I jump up and throw myself into the pond in my clothes and shoes up to my waist, grabbing beetles with my hands! And what I see eek.gifis a male marginalis trying to sign a female latissimus! I never caught latissimus again.

I saw how different types of flower barbels "registered" each other in Primorye. Then someone will catch a hybrid-and in the subject of "Cryptoentomology"! smile.gif

I don't think they were the last ones. I'll see what happens next year.

I will not say that the discovery was accidental, but that it was unexpected and joyful-that's for sure. During the trip to Primorye, almost the main goal was to capture the largest Russian praying mantis-Tenodera angustipennis Sauss.. Since at that time I did not know more accurate landmarks than the "Southern Primorye", it was decided to try my luck on Gamov Peninsula. Alas, only the first three days were happy with the good weather. Once, while taking a walk to the lighthouse, I suddenly heard the chirping of a Ussuri grasshopper in a lespedetz bush located right on the edge of the road. I approach slowly, slowly pushing the branches apart... and I see literally fifteen centimeters in front of the nose of a huge male tenodera! While he was recovering, I managed to grab him. There was no limit to my joy! This specimen remained the only imago of this species in my collection, then only a couple of larvae were found. Alcinous, by the way, I also found on that trip, only knowing approximately the direction.
