On May 13, 2017, at the age of 74, a well-known Soviet and Russian entomologist, expert on cicadas, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Georgy Alexandrovich Anufriev died from a massive stroke without regaining consciousness.

Rest in peace, teacher and friend

A great loss for entomology, for the Nizhny Novgorod biofactory department. Georgy Alexandrovich was an example for his students both in life and in science, and remained true to his vocation until the last days, going on expeditions and teaching. Over the years, I remember his lectures, his searching gaze over the top of his glasses... People like him, Maya Andreevna, Lyudmila Nikolaevna-set the atmosphere of the faculty. I am glad that I studied with them, although I skipped school of course. Earth in peace.

Bright memory!
I found Georgy Alexandrovich as a child. I was about five years old. He came to our village to pick up cicadas, came to visit. I remember his very noisy machine, which he used to collect cicadas, and how he climbed a tree with a camera and filmed the laying of thrush eggs. This photo is still somewhere, we'll have to look for it.
