Yellow mealworm beetle

Community and ForumHow to get rid of insectsYellow mealworm beetle

guest: Елена, 31.01.2007 0:40

I am very glad that I found your forum. I live in Estonia, in a prefabricated house on the 5th floor. Windows on one side overlook the fields and cottages. In summer, there is a grid on the windows, but insects can crawl through it from the bottom and top if desired. 3 years already in the summer in the apartment constantly detachivayusya beetles. Only recently did I learn their name: bolshoy flour krushchak. Photos are available here: http://ivanov-petrov.livejournal.com/511759.html I found beetles more often in the morning, but also in the afternoon. On the carpet most often. I've never seen maggots anywhere, and I've never seen their cocoons either.

Question: How do I get rid of the next invasion? Install the grid on the windows without gaps, more carefully? Or can they still make their way through the ventilation system? It is unlikely that they get divorced in the kvartit or it can still be? In stocks of cereals excluded. Only if it's in furniture. But I repeat, I didn't see any maggots or cocoons. Or do they eat their cocoon?

Maybe there are some preparations for treating windows from the outside and mesh, so that insects do not want to crawl in? mol.gif

I will be very grateful for your advice and answers!

Khrushchaks should not live in furniture. Only in cereals. Moreover, they do not need moisture at all. Nit doesn't seem to have any cocoons. But they should leave the skins when the larvae molt from one age to another.

And what kind of ventilation? If you can get through, they can get through smile.gif

From neighbors-excluded?

I don't know if there are any repellent repellents.....

Large flour crustaceans can develop in attics where pigeons live. But in panel houses, as far as I know, there are no attics, but there may be a technical floor... It is also quite possible that these beetles settle, once in a panel house and not finding anything where you can live and breed-they climb into apartments through ventilation shafts... To get rid of it, put a grid on the ventilation, it should help. In homes with central heating, this type practically does not develop, because in winter there is very low humidity - < 50% and it does not like such conditions...

We have an attic above us, where pigeons and spiders live smile.gif- my husband went and saw them. Well, let's put the grid on the ventilation, thank you so much for the advice! Then it will be seen. I didn't ask my neighbors about beetles.

about humidity it is strange to me... I bred them for culture once, and they didn't seem to need moisture at all... But I may not remember something anymore.

31.01.2007 12:13, Dmitry Vlasov

I did not breed them myself, but those who keep lizards and breed crustaceans for food, said that in winter you have to periodically spray the substrate, otherwise it is possible to oppress and die, especially the larvae of the first instar...
I have repeatedly found all the stages of development in village houses with stove heating, in the attics of old houses with pigeons, beetles - in tree hollows (but I did not find larvae), but I have never found them in modern apartments with central heating. heating (except for accidentally caught beetles - like Elena's) And in general, the fauna of synanthropic beetles in constantly heated residential premises (with the center. heating) and non-permanently heated (with a stove) is very different.

31.01.2007 12:53, Dmitrii Musolin

yes, I remember that it was necessary to wet the cloth in the incubator....

Humidity is necessary for normal development. In its absence, beetles simply develop more slowly, well, maybe the mortality rate is higher, but not very critical. I have two years on the cabinet was an inverted box from under the cake without a bottom (lid). The Khrushchak population lived there very well, and I fed them very rarely (when I rememberedshuffle.gif), once every two or three months, and I didn't give them any water at all. They lived, did not grieve, and multiplied. Extremely resilient creatures.

In awe! smile.gif)) You know, it's like I'm talking to aliens. smile.gif)) Such a love for insects! smile.gif

And khrushchaks-I still hope they are not very stable and will not appear in my apartment again. smile.gif And now I have a guinea pig that lives on grain feed, among other things. I don't want beetles coming to her house for lunch. frown.gif By the way, they are able to bite at the time of urgent need?

01.02.2007 4:47, Dmitrii Musolin

No, they can't bite, or rather, no one will feel it. And piggy may even be happy to have such a meat pie!

Good afternoon! Imagine, with the same problem as Elena, faced not anywhere, but in St. Petersburg. I live on the 9th floor in a prefabricated house. Beetles appeared three years ago, and every year their number increases. This year I made repairs in the room, cemented all the cracks, putted everything up, glued it up, I thought that I would breathe easy. As soon as the temperature outside the window reached +20, the "night celebration" began....I don't sleep all night, I sit with a sneaker in my hand, ready for defense, I don't turn off the light... As a result, 15 adults face up to their bellies. At first I didn't attach any importance to them, I thought they didn't bother me. and once I watched a movie until late at night, and then I realized how they didn't touch me... I've been through everything, under the covers, in my pajamas, in my hair, and in my slippers. In general, at night they feel like full owners.
Now I'm sitting at work, after a sleepless night, the feeling is indescribable. To any touch, be it a hair, a feather, etc. reaktschiya as on a beetle.
We need to do something about it!!! Can you tell me what?

I am not alone in such trouble, I am also from St. Petersburg, 5th floor, panel house, one to one the same situation as GRIGORUNUA, and also 3 years old. 6 pieces each. every day I clap, where they come from-I don't know, once they climbed on top of my head...brrr... there are so few of these nasty things, I almost get hysterical..... I get goosebumps, go into a stupor, clap them, and then tears, some kind of phobia, well still calmed down by the fact that these bastards do not bite, but they will definitely bring me to a heart attack frown.gif frown.gif confused.gif confused.gif

Grid on the windows and forget about it.

And there's no need to watch anything nasty at night. There's more to come on TV mad.gif

Once again, hello everyone!!! Six months have passed since my last record, and I survived that summer. But with horror I think about the upcoming (((That by this time I managed to find out. The beetles in my room are large flour crustaceans, there is a conclusion of a specialist from the central SES with Krasnogvardeyskaya. They advised to treat the entire apartment with vinegar, the stronger the solution, the better. But it didn't help me.
I went to my homeland, decided to ask there, maybe they will give more information about this species: habitats, treats, etc. The doctor took out her notes from time immemorial, and read to us:"....the eggs of the larvae of krushchak are transferred by ordinary pigeons, the larva is unpretentious in food, like an adult, they prefer flour products (pigeons bring food to their chicks), and during their absence they do not disdain the products of bird life and dead chicks. Generally omnivorous!..."immediately everything fell into place eek.gifabove my room there is a ventilation shaft, about half a meter high, pigeons settle and breed in its holes every spring. I don't see any other reason for the appearance of beetles...
so, guys, which instance to apply to confused.gif
yes, and, that summer, beetles were already seen in the entrance. this means that if you do not fight them, then it will only benefit them (((

I started this topic. For 2 years now, these beetles have not appeared in my apartment. Although pigeons in the attic continue to nest. I put grids on the windows. The air vents were not closed. I wish that other uninvited guests stopped appearing.:)

Although humans are such changeable creatures. :))) Maybe the beetles sensed the danger beforehand... I suddenly decided to have small birds-astrilds and even once brought out chicks from my birds. And for good reproduction, they need live food. So I, overcoming at first a terrible disgust, bought zofobas (as I understand it, this is one of the stages of development of khrushchak). :) I kept it in the refrigerator and fed it to my birds. I never learned to take it with my hands, but the negative feelings subsided a little. :) (I didn't plant it myself, I handed the 2 resulting pupae back to the store).

Hello! I have the same problem with these beetles. I live in a private house. They appeared somewhere in April. I live in a private house . Now in the kitchen I found small beetles, somewhere they were hatched . I'm generally afraid of insects, so even In the closet to look scary. I have a small child and I am very afraid suddenly they also carry some kind of infection ? Is there a chance to get rid of them forever and how to do it ?

Check stocks of cereals, flour, breadcrumbs, gingerbread, and other flour products. Look for larvae or skins from them. And destroy it. What else to do then?

I live in a five-story building near Moscow. This is the same nonsense for the third year, constantly in July, they probably have weddings, because they sometimes get knocked up in pairs.During the night, I catch up to 20 pieces, they climb under the blanket-it's disgusting. In winter, I checked there is nothing anywhere, although I read that in the absence of the main food, they can eat skin, feathers, fur, wood.I would like to know where they spend the winter, because I live in the city center, where there is only concrete. It would be possible to pritravit them so on the site of wintering.
