Base gallery. Upperside. Alive insect.

Photo, and identified by: Alexsandr Martukov. Image without retouching at the website

Date and time, location shooting/catching: 2012-07-07 00:00:00, Vologda region, Velikoustyugsky district, Yudinskoe settlement, right bank of the Yamzhi River, vicinity of the village Urzhumovo.

Photographer's comment: Poplar Admiral - very good-looking. It was possible to reach it through the feed base. My friend knew where there was a clump of black poplars on the site of a former manor house near an abandoned mill. Once we purposefully got there. To our great joy, poplar admirals periodically flew over us. It turns out that next to poplars they chose old lime trees. Unfortunately, the butterflies did not come down, and I had to get them feeding on linden flowers with a TV box - from 20 meters away. The fact itself is very interesting for our northern butterflies, and so I decided to offer this picture for publication.

Most of all - it is! Quite often L. populi in 2012. I met on the dry (artificial) between the primer dd. Chernev and Tomasheva Orel settlement going on Indigenous south bank of the river. Road tight enough frames aspen. Poplar lentochniki examined for some reason the road sections with protruding gravel!)

In the picture I think the female (could be wrong). On personal observations from L. populi just females rarely leave the trees. While males are usually at the bottom and can be taken directly from the moist soil of forest roads. Can you not?
