Date and time, location shooting/catching: 2024-08-27 16:00:00, Абхазия г. Пицунда, ул.Бичвинта

Photographer's comment: The larva is dead. The photos contain the date of observation of the living. The photos were taken days later. After prolonged (three days) heavy rains on the first clear day, mass (several hundred) movement of this type from a vacant lot with thickets and cow dung across the sidewalk and roadway to the opposite side. The column is several meters wide. Description of appearance: length 4-6 cm, width 0.4-0.8 cm, flattened body!(like a leech), segmented -11 segments (?). The front part is elongated, resembles a proboscis, as far as possible to see - there are no additional formations on the front part, which can be judged that this is the head part, the back part ends in two short outgrowths (?). You can't see your feet or they're not there. The surface of the body is dry (not covered with mucus), does not shine, matte, uniformly colored, dark gray or dark brown-gray, almost black. Crawls "proboscis" forward like a caterpillar.

It looks like Hydrophilus piceus, but not it. I carefully examined the moving living individuals: they crawl forward with a narrow elongated end that looks like a proboscis, there is no hint of jaws (neither behind nor in front) and there are no legs! Within a radius of 0.5 km from the place of their detection, there are no reservoirs or puddles.

Hydrophilus piceus.
