Imago Habitus and Differences from alike species

  • The length of the front wing is 4 cm. The wings are dark, each with a light band, on the last one there are 1 or 2 eyes. Females are distinguished by a larger size and a more yellow-tinged sling. The color of the underside of the wings allows the butterfly to blend in with the bark of the tree on which it rests. Buchberry marigold looks similar to Hipparchia alcyone, but differs from it in its larger size. In addition, the species is distinguished by the fact that in H. fagi the white band on the hindwings is wider than the brown border, and in H. alcyone-on the contrary. [85].
