Imago Habitus and Differences from alike species
- Externally, niobe is similar to adippa, the difference lies in the lighter color of the wings and the more rounded shape of the tips of the front wings in niobe. But the adippa has a more pronounced chain of holes, and the mother — of-pearl spots on the underside of the hind wings are larger. For females f. obscura Spul. it is characterized by a darker color, and representatives of f. eris Meig. and they do without mother-of-pearl spots on the lower surface of the hind wings, which are replaced here by light yellow or yellow-brown spots. In the latter case, the similarity is again seen with the red pearl moth (Argynnis adippe), in which the form cleodoxa Ochs is known. also devoid of mother-of-pearl spots. [85].
