Greetings, gentlemen! I have two photos of Tmarus piger, taken two years apart and in two completely different places. In both photos, there is a spider with an ant, on which some small fly is sitting. If with an ant, there are no special questions - perhaps it feeds exclusively on them, but what does a fly do there? And this is not an isolated case. In the book "Spiders of Central Russia" (2011), a photograph of this spider also with an ant and with a small fly.

Quite clearly, the fly and spider are working as a team!

So is it purely random? Did a fly fly by?)

No, this is a special fly that steals spider prey. There's a whole family of them, I forget what they're called.

Are you serious? Can I tell you more?

Figured it out)) These flies are from the Milichiidae family, keep close to predatory arthropods, mainly spiders, catbirds and predatory beetles, and feed on hemolymph flowing from the wounds of the victim
