Hello dear forum participants! I'm sorry that I'm writing on the wrong topic. Please tell me how to distinguish the gender of a linden hawk moth caterpillar? I can distinguish pupae, but I haven't seen caterpillars yet. Caught today on the road under lime trees, planted in a jar with lime leaves.

If your construction project is not located in the Polar Urals, then here it is:

Really? Somewhere on the forum there was information that the sex is formed in the egg stage. Moreover, we bought a couple of oleander pupae at the congress and were told that they can select males and females in the caterpillar stage. How so??? tongue.gif

In unpaired silkworm caterpillars, it is very easy to determine the sex: the caterpillars from which the females will come out are always twice as large, especially in the last age. I think they are not the only ones.

Look, you have the focus on the ruler, do not bring the lens so close to the butterfly and then the camera will focus on it, and cut off the excess at the edges of the frame. smile.gif
