I suggest for the section "Bio-pictures".
There is a description, the original image size is 1600X1200X900 KB
""
Polyxena-Zerynthia polyxena (Denis et Schiffermuller, 1775)=
= Zerynthia hypsipyle Schulze
Family of Sailboats-Papilionidae.

The butterfly is medium-sized, with a wingspan of 40 to 55 mm. It flies from the end of April to May, the flight is slow ," not sure", when the weather is overcast and if the sun is hidden by clouds, it immediately sets, takes off when worried, does not willingly let it get very close, in cloudy weather it crawls on the offered hand. It feeds on various flowers, but mostly sits on the ground or stems. It occurs directly near the forage plant-kirkazon, forms quite large clusters.
The caterpillars emerge from their eggs some time after laying, feed only on plants of the genus Aristolochia (Kirkazon), and the pupa overwinters.
It is believed that the number of this butterfly is decreasing.

Kakraz went fishing today smile.gif
Pro letne can say that straight slow and not sure.. When the morning - it looks like that, but when they get hot, and even if you scare them, it turns into a race, so 2 pieces could not catch up (I wanted to chase, but they surpassed the money)

I was on the spot at 13 o'clock with an air temperature of +16C and variable cloud cover. Well, I don't know what kind of reactive polyxenes are in Moldova, but ours are very calm. I didn't catch them, but when they took off, they didn't fly more than 10m away. Strange, it's still a macroglossum or colias can not catch up, and polyxena, judging by its wing structure.. Maybe they were blown away by the wind smile.gif

Maybe the wind helped, but mostly I think fright.. A couple of pieces heated up + fright gave their result (the terrain is also not in my favor smile.gif) The rest were easily caught.

I suggest for the section "Bio-pictures".
You can easily do it yourself. Create a theme in the "Insect Images" subforum. Here it says how to do this. If you have any difficulties-write in PM.

I did it, check it out smile.gif
RippeR, I corrected the description in accordance with your comments smile.gif
Only you are there, it is advisable not to catch them too much, wait until they completely pass the reproductive phase...

I don't seem to be destroying them very much.. And today I caught the long desired Kalofris ruby smile.gif

Here's what I accidentally found about Polixenes ' skittishness:
************
Graceful Polyxena

Comment: Polyxena (Zerynthia polyxena Schiff.) is so agile and cautious that it is very difficult to see its beauty - it does not let you get close to it. I had to take pictures with a telephoto lens in macro mode, but even at this distance (about one meter), I was not able to get close immediately.
This is a rare butterfly listed in the Red Book. Its larvae develop only on strictly defined plants of the family kirkazonovyh (Aristolochiaciae); butterflies are hatched once a year in late April-early May and please our eyes no more than two or three weeks...

An interesting story about polyxene.
In Krasnodar, they want to build a highway out of lawlessness, which no one needs, except for those who launder money on it. And so it has already turned out that there is a population of polyxena exactly on the site of its construction.
Here everything is stated in a general form.

Points from the ainaturalist:
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?ne...taxon_id=333217

there, five years ago, they celebrated polyxena in another park (Turgenevsky Park, Yubileyny m-n of Krasnodar), about a kilometer away, but most likely it is not there, because they mowed it very harshly. As for the surrounding area, I explored about fifteen km in April and May. the Kuban coast (Belozernoye, Elizavetinka, and Kuban Coast districts), but I didn't find any polyxena.
Such things.

If anyone has any thoughts on how to save her:

I am sure that within a radius of 10 km there will be many more polyxena breeding points. This is not at all a rare butterfly from the steppe zone. Tea is not Apollo. But it has a long-term population dynamics that is spasmodic, and in some years it is possible not to meet any of them at all. The pupa sometimes lies for several years. So what you didn't find in a particular year is not an indicator. I believe that May will be a little late for Krasnodar - only a few flying females will survive until then. At the beginning of April, you need to search.
