Entalex, thank you!
What kind of literature do you use to identify Carabus?

A little bit from different sources, but there is no universal atlas on carabuses.
I've seen a few things in the collections. There are practically no global determinants for the Caucasian Carabus species at all. By the way there is a good website for Carabus:
www.carabus.eu wink.gif

And that book, "the genus Karabus in the world" does not give information on the Karabus of the Caucasus? no.gif It's just that such a big name should oblige you to do something...

www.carabus.eu -the site may be quite good for the future, but it is still "damp".

I think I'll agree... Although the pronotum was initially confused. Can I find out the size of the bug?

This atlas is good for determining the Aedeagus, if you have the appropriate experience. Places of gathering of species (subspecies) are indicated. As I have already mentioned, the illustrations show the typical types of subgenera.
There is one global atlas for the Carabus of the world: Imura & Mizusawa "The Carabus of the World" 1996. Atlas with a large number of color tables of copies. Many good works on European views. I don't know any such literature in the Caucasus. wall.gif

I agree, but there are few sites where you can download PDF with descriptions of taxa, areas and color photos. yes.gif

I recommend solving old problems with ground beetles by going to the Moscow State Pedagogical University, room 101. There is a whole crowd of ground beetles sitting there. smile.gif

I agree with all the positions. If you are interested, I can post photos of my M. convallium and E. cumanus. I haven't figured out Tribax yet either, but not circassicus.

In general, it would be interesting to see a good photo of precisely defined Caucasians with cute little comments, as rpanin did. eek.gif

Tobysh ,you suggest posting scans (photos) not only to identify, but also to familiarize "Caucasians" . I'm all for it !

With the world on a thread, and then look, we will create our own alternative atlas. After all, it's no secret that not everything is available on the Internet, especially at the subspecies level. I would like to know more! umnik.gif

Yes, I'm interested jump.gif
What is not circassicus-100%, I have circassicus and it has a completely different sculpture of elytra.

Caucasians:
1. Archiplectes reitteri Retow., 1885 (Zamotailov A. S. det.)
( NW Kavkaz, Adygea, Fisht-Oshten massif, per. Maikopsky district)
July 2006
2. Archiplectes starcki Heyd., 1885 (Zamotailov A. S. det.) - ibid. Variable in color appearance. The types are quite common.

Are there any Amara specialists there? Do they have a phone in their room?
Thank you.

I would readily answer, but, honestly, I don't knowsmile.gif, I don't have a clue about these beetles, and they got to me for a long time. This is not very noticeable in the pictures, but in daylight convallium is greener, with almost no reddish tint.

Exactly Carabus exaratus, and also (most likely) not recognized by Makarov northern subspecies.
And here's a joke: picture: carabus.jpg
- this beetle is caught in the Chelyabinsk and Tyumen regions. Even Kryzhanovsky still talked about some morphological differences. And they are still calving with a description of a new species!

Cara2-Carabus (Megodontus) exaratus Quensel, 1806-definitely! Color form with green borders. Typical - with purple ones. There are dark specimens with a barely noticeable purple (blue) border of the elytra and a faint bluish tint of the pronotum (melanistic form?). Another interesting question is that there are no subspecies listed in the entire range, although this is rather strange, since there are really isolated populations, as Cerambyx accurately noted!? confused.gif
