Help identify an insect that looks like a beetle, the bite occurred in California, in a national park (territory-caves and sequoia trees). The bite occurred on June 17, extremely painful, similar to an electric shock . Is this insect dangerous ?

Beetle exactly, but this photo is difficult to understand even the family. And why only the bottom view? It is extremely doubtful that he could have bitten at all, the oral apparatus is clearly not the same system. Maybe he gave out some caustic secret?
