Why do the elytra of lucanids often diverge after drying?
how can I solve this problem?

I don't think it's scary, it happens to mine too. In my opinion, the most significant problem is how to prevent the darkening of the elytra, which is noticeable on your specimens on the right. In general, a solution to the problem: when straightening, prick the beetle on both sides with pins.

Yes, indeed... So last week I overexposed a girl-odontolabrus. And the elytra became very dark. Coloration slowly returns. But maybe it makes sense, after removing from the "peat" throw for 4 days in 96% alcohol, perhaps it will take away excess moisture??? confused.gif

After 96% alcohol, insects are very fragile. However, if they have previously absorbed additional moisture - I do not know, I have never had such cases. But soaking in 70% alcohol before drying perfectly protects soft-bodied erect wings from darkening, and perhaps the beetle will somehow help. In it, you can also soak it by simply immersing it for a couple of days. True, it is expensive and pathetic. Although, probably, the resulting infusion can then be used for its intended purpose smile.gif

this is not only the case with lukanids. when they dry, you need to build a structure of needles: from above, two pins are pressed on the cross on each side, it is fixed - this is the top, and 2 more pins on the sides (in the middle) of the ndkr are DEEP! make sure that the vertex corners don't overlap! you can put 00 or 0 in there. we dry for a long time, depending on the temperature, at home-a month at normal humidity, or an oven-I'm not an assistant here.
