user posted imageMother-of-pearl butterflies are several genera of the nymphalidae family. The wings span 3-12 cm; the upper side is usually reddish with black spots and stripes, the lower side is of various colors, often with shiny, mother-of-pearl (hence the name) or silver spots and bandages.
They are distributed in the Northern Hemisphere, mainly in temperate latitudes.

In July of this year, in the Volokolamsk district near the village of Teryaevo, I caught a copy of the mother-of-pearl pandora. Very beautiful. Took a place in the collection.

Are you sure!? Pandora in MO is almost nonsense! Can I take a photo?

Not at all. This year, pandora has had a good migration to the north. We (Kharkiv region, Ukraine) got offspring that still flies. In the south of the region in places in the mass. Of course, Kharkiv is not Moscow, but still, still. smile.gif I advise you to search wink.giffor

30.08.2009 23:37, Ilia Ustiantcev

It's a pity, because I don't pay attention to the pathos anymore. What if you missed it!?

30.08.2009 23:49, RippeR

well, pandoras are larger and darker than papias, and fly faster, I think if I flew by, I would pay attention smile.gif

31.08.2009 14:52, Кундуз

I'm sorry, but wait a bit. There will definitely be a photo. I really hope it's Pandora.

There is no Pandora in the MA, but Argynnis paphia is plentiful.

Here it is, your dream, really battered by life. There are a lot of them in the south this year - they still fly. This one was taken 4 days ago near Volgograd. And about a month ago, all the flower beds were filled with them in the city.

I don't agree. In MO Pandora is really a dream, and in the Crimea-just a beautiful butterfly.

Yeah, so I'm supposed to dream of a callipogon flying up on my balcony? 0_о

01.09.2009 6:09, Ilia Ustiantcev

No. Now, if it was in Moscow, I would rather say - Saturnia pyri. smile.gif

Actually, don't be too upset. You can still find a lot of interesting things from mother-of-pearl jewelry in M. O. for example:Argynnis laodice Pallas, 1771 (almost as large as A. paphia and your favorite Pandora) - Good luck! Here's a photo of her:

On what plants does the mother-of-pearl lay eggs?

Mother-of-pearl unpaired (Damora sagana) is.The female.

And this, from my point of view, is a male:
