user posted imageLionflies (Stratiomyidae), a family of flies. The size is 5-15 mm, the abdomen is flattened, the color is bright: yellow and green stripes and spots on a black background, sometimes with a metallic sheen, less often black. More than 1,500 species are distributed on all continents, excluding Antarctica; in the USSR, there are about 200 species, mainly in the south of the country. Flies stay on flowers, among plants near water, less often on tree trunks and branches.
The picture was taken in the Astrakhan region.
