Yes, with the wings open, it's not a problem to see. I, for example, have never met a male before, and there are plenty of females.

Thecla betulae last week, when it was hot, flew very often, I saw several pieces a day, although many of them were battered. And as always, only females (I don't know what this is connected with, maybe someone will tell you?), I saw the male only once, but unfortunately I didn't catch him.

02.09.2007 19:26, Zhuk

This is a strange thing. Females are more often found in populated areas, and males in remote places.

15.10.2007 2:19, Ekos

It's time for me to connect to this topicsmile.gif, I'm just trudging away from the shanks and marshmallows jump.gifStarting! Only, dear colleagues, let's lay out not only the upper, but also the lower sides of the wings of these butterflies, it also has a very important diagnostic value! wink.gif

Japonica saepestriata, male, Khabarovsk Krai, Khabarovsk district, foothills of Bol Khekhtsir cr., 15.07.2007. A very rare item!

But another yellow marshmallow tongue.gifis also a cool look, but in comparison with the previous one, it is quite common in some places.

Japonica lutea

15.10.2007 2:38, Ekos

And finally, the last of the yellow and orange marshmallows of the Russian Far East - Shirozua jonasi (female). It only flies in August, so it is quite rare in fees.

PS I put the image of each type of marshmallow in a separate message, and as a result, all the images are automatically placed in a single final image... Strange.

Lampides boeticus
Ukraine, Western region of Melitopol October 2007.

picture: IMG_3ik_f.jpg

P.S. Some statistics on beticus in Melitopol.
2007.(autumn) - 8ekz.
2008.(spring-summer) - 8ekz.
2009.(autumn) - 1exec., plus three months (so far).

I wonder how many years it takes to catch beticus in Melitopol to decide
that it is easier for him to live here than to fly in from Algeria every time, for example. smile.gif
