I wonder if any of the participants have a Sephisa daimio? It would also be great to put Thaleropis ionia here.

Does Iris often come across in the MO? And how can you quickly distinguish her from Elijah?

24.09.2007 15:06, AntSkr

It's bigger, and it's easier to tell the difference when it sits down... Although if you often see them, they are determined intuitively... and in the Ministry of Defense regularly comes across, sometimes often...

24.09.2007 15:09, Pavel Morozov

smile.gif Iris is more common in the western regions of the MO. On the border with the Smolensk region even numerous.
On the upper side - it is already visible here, On the lower side - please.

Largely sad photo history of Apatura iris
development A 3rd-instar caterpillar was found almost accidentally on a goat willow tree in Odintsovo district of Moscow Region on May 11.
Goat willow and reared. Looking ahead. I will say that it could have turned out to be an excellent male (a little consolation. because the male is easier to catch), but due to my oversightwall.gif, a fresh butterfly could not spread its wings.
Below is a photo of that poor guy. I decided to put this picture first, so that there would not be a "particularly pronounced bummer effect".

But then - almost the entire development cycle.

I almost forgot to put
a lower-resolution photo of the year before last about the process of changing from caterpillar to pupa. In June 2007, we managed to find a mature caterpillar on the fence, which pupated at home, but the butterfly, unfortunately, also failed

The most interesting thing is that not everyone knows that Thaleropis ionia is common in Russia! In Dagestan, near Makhachkala, you can observe these wonderful butterflies. And I will not say that it is very rare there. Meet her during the summer, you can every day.
The image shows Russian Thaleropis ionia from the vicinity of Makhachkala.
