confused.gif confused.gif confused.gif G. Markhot. !? Where is this? Open any geographical map or atlas and read the correct name of our ridge "Markotkhsky ridge "or" Markotkh " I admit that it is easier for you to pronounce the word Markhot (both hear and write ;-))) but why do you distort the correct geographical name of our ridge? we have only the Markoth ridge and there is no Markhoth ridge and even more so the mountains, there is only the Big Markoth Mountain… umnik.gif

Finally, I waited for this amendment. However, I expected it to be shorter: "The correct spelling of the name of the ridge is Markoth".

Indeed, the ridge that encircles Novorossiysk is called that on all maps. But I can't find the names of the mountains that face Verkhnebakansky on any of them (on all maps, the names are put as if they no longer belong to this part of the mountains). For you, as a local friend, I will explain that we are talking about the hill on which the Novorossiysk TV Tower is located. One of the slopes looks directly at the Tunnel, and on the other side you can go to the top past the cannon, from the dirt road opposite the lapel to Raevskaya. From the maps, I repeat, it is impossible to understand whether this mountain belongs to the Markotkh encircling Novorossiysk.

As a sign of appreciation for the remark, I send a picture of a memorial sign installed on the specified mountain (I believe, not by fools and not by visitors) next to the tank at the fork in the tracks near Verkhnebakansky (check – in directly from the Krasnodar-Novorossiysk highway). I scan the image from an ordinary photo from August 22, 2003 (the object is still in the same place today, you can go and check it out, you can see it directly from the highway), so the quality is terrible, but the right word in the third line from the bottom on the stone can be read easily: Markhot, but not Markoth. The inscription says that there is a forest planted on the barren slopes of Markhot, which is bequeathed to posterity. Just in case, I also attach an enlarged fragment with the word "Markhot" in the middle of the frame.

I would appreciate it if you could point out on which map I can find the name so that it definitely refers to this mountain, which is very far from the ridge line. So far, in addition to the specified memorial sign, I have not been able to find anything anywhere.

That's the problem. From April 28 to May 9, I think it did nothing but sit down. No matter where the wind blows, it's either hail, rain, fog, or just heavy clouds, or all of them together. I didn't see much daylight. I understand that visitors would like to see the insects there, not the plants and landscapes. I'd like that, too...

This is a monument about the fact that they wanted to do the best, but they didn't try hard enough...
Now Markoth is completely "bald" mountain peaks and partly the southern slope. Terraced slopes of the Markotkhsky ridge in the area of responsibility of the Gelendzhik forestry. A failed attempt by the Novorossiysk and Gelendzhik forest districts to plant pine trees on the mountain slopes of Markotkha as a result of this barbaric attitude to native Nature, the so-called shiblyak thickets of low-growing trees and shrubs were destroyed for many kilometers.
This is a truly terrible place and more tragic because it was here that endemic plants grew, which were listed in the Red Book of the RSFSR, and now nothing grows! and it is more insulting that those who were supposed to save these rare plants did this, and what is the use of such a Red Book, apart from beautiful pictures, if under each rare plant (tulips, crocuses, orchids, carnations) that previously grew here it is written: "It is necessary to organize nature reserves in places where there is a relatively large occurrence of species, in which particularly on the Markoth Ridge."..
And the fact that the name of the Markoth ridge is incorrectly written on the monument is an additional confirmation of complete ignorance of both those who ordered this monument and those who created it… As they say in such cases: "It's also written on the fence..."

The Markotkh range starts from the "Volchye Vorota" pass and stretches in a chain of continuous mountains from the fork at the Raevskaya station to Gelendzhik and then passing into another ridge. On the ridges, only the most noticeable mountains that stand out from the general background of the mountain range have a name.: Bald (Novorossiysk), Sugar Loaf, Kvashin hillock, Sovkhoznaya, Madnaya, Mukhiny Polyany, etc. on the maps, as it should be, they are marked.

So do those hills on the outskirts of the ridge that face the traffic police post and the Tunnelnaya station fall within the range or not?? And if so, ON WHICH MAP can you see exactly SUCH limits of the ridge? The boundaries you have indicated correspond to what I already know from the maps. But after all, from the fork to Raevskaya and from Volchiy Vorota to Gelendzhik - this is approximately to the southeast, and my hills – to the northeast from Volchiy Vorota, almost to the north, they are from Volchiy Vorota not to Gelendzhik, but to Verkhnebakansky and even to the left. That is, approximately from the suburban areas near the tower-through the tower - to the quarries in Verkhnebakansky.

By the way, quarries, it seems, will eventually solve the problem of pine excess... But today the slopes with" pre-base " vegetation, as I have noticed (I have been there many times), are preserved, and their area is not so small, although, I believe, once it was more.
