On April 8, 2009, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Igor Vasilyevich Stebaev (1925-2009), founder and head of the Department of General Biology and Ecology of Novosibirsk State University, died. I. V. Stebaev's works on the ecology of erect-winged insects are widely known. Igor Vasilyevich is considered to be the founder of the Novosibirsk school of orthopterology. In addition, he is known as one of the founders of soil zoology.

The death of I. V. Stebaev is a huge loss for Russian science.
