Fourth International Congress of the Forum

Community and ForumOffline eventsFourth International Congress of the Forum

Pavel Udovichenko, 24.08.2009 15:55

This is not a joke...
The third congress is over and it's time to think about the fourth one. Life goes on!
So, I'll start from far away.
At one time, the first entomological burzas (like European ones) were held in Moscow, but then they somehow forgot about it. So, there was an idea, and already managed to acquire real proposals and contours, about holding the second entomological storm in Russia! The scale is planned to be much larger than it was the first time.
To be honest, I don't see the difference between the congress and burza, the difference is only in terms! The content is the same! So, since the topic is new and will obviously get a lot of ideas, I bring up a few thoughts and suggestions from myself for discussion, but then we'll start developing....

Ideas and opportunities:

1) The congress is held on the second weekend of September (11-12 in 2010), since by this time almost everyone will have returned from the fields, but they will not yet go to Europe for fairs. In addition, the following weekend passes storms in Europe, and, for example, the Japanese can fly through Moscow (their presence is quite possible, especially since they have already been here for the purpose of buying material and communicating). Yes, at this time, the maximum concentration of new material on the hands.
2) The congress is held in a hall in the center of Moscow, there is already a preliminary oral agreement with the management of one of the old palaces (not culture). I'll cover the rent of the gym, plus sponsorship (I'll also cover it myself).
3) Only those who need a table pay for participation, no more than 1000 rubles. at the table. Of course, anyone who can and deems it necessary and considers that it can also help - I will be glad, because this is an investment in our future.
4) Naturally, food will be organized from the money that went to the tables and on the money of sponsors.
5) I propose to place a photo exhibition around the perimeter, which will attract the "Macro Club".
6) I propose to attract fans of live invertebrates, as is done on European burzas.
7) I propose to involve several publishing houses and bookselling firms engaged in the sale and publication of entomological literature (there are connections, there will be a quorum)
8) Naturally, the equipment.
9) It is necessary to create an organizing committee to resolve a number of issues.
10) Working schedule: on Saturday - from 9 to 11-placement of expositions, at 11 opening, we work until 7, a gala cocktail, a trip to the restaurant-bar-cafe (optional). On Sunday-we work from 10 to 14, collecting expositions.
11) Meals will be organized during the entire time.
12) Problem-accommodation for an overnight stay in Moscow-waiting for ideas! The problem is solved, you just need to work it out.

Well, there is an idea, and now we are discussing it until we turn blue, we have a year! Really - less! I'm going to send out invitations to a lot of people, and this should be done in advance.

Such thoughts:
1. Organizing a western-style bursa is fine, but it is unlikely to replace the congress itself. Still, these are slightly different concepts. The congress is held between us, most of us know each other, communicate, see each other, hug, share impressions of trips, drink without fail according to the old Russian tradition, have a delicious snack and look at your friend with a warm look full of pleasure. Will this be possible under the Japanese? Hardly. Will they understand this?
2. However, this does not mean that there will be no bursa. On the contrary, it should become a necessary fragment of the upcoming congress. How are the meetings being held now? That's right, they can be closed and open. The first part is informal, where friends meet in a warm, relaxed atmosphere, communicate, share material, make new acquaintances, drink, eat and laugh in a fun and relaxed way. And on the next day, the official bursa itself opens directly. Participants put on strict civilized faces, try to become courteous and polite, drink little, eat only with a knife and fork, look - politely warning, official. And the exchange is only strict, official, sales too, like in a good supermarket. That's when the Japanese will be happy, and the Europeans will perceive us without fear. Yes, and their nature and desires do not poherim.
Something like this. And even otherwise, it is unlikely that success will be on all fronts. smile.gif

I support Pavel's suggestion and omara's thoughts! Let's discuss it.

24.08.2009 17:04, omar

In principle, the problem with spending the night in Moscow for a couple of days can be solved quite simply. On the outskirts there are inexpensive and not quite bad hotels for not very much money. For old friends, Muscovites can share beds and cots, who have the opportunity. I have, I traditionally accept the lowest-income and best collectors like Ripper and, say, Dorcadion. They are students, and this is important. Many people have country houses in the nearest Moscow region. Rating and booking of hotels can be made to any of the Muscovites who will be included in the organizing committee. A list of room prices and the impression of personal acquaintance from apartments on the eve of guests ' arrival can be posted on the forum.

24.08.2009 17:11, Pavel Udovichenko

Great, we are also sitting here with taler and discussing different thoughts.

Of course, you can hold a "private party" before, but.... first, we immediately cut off new people, including a lot of professionals and amateurs who are eager to communicate and meet, but for some reason are not registered on the forum, and there are a lot of them. In Moscow - at least 10 people can list I can only read, but not write! How do we explain to them that they are not worthy to sit with us on Friday? Secondly, we need to fundamentally decide who we want to see at the event, that is, determine the target audience. This can only be forumchane, friends and invited non-forumchane, people from the street, students and students of biological schools, and so on. By the way, advertising of the event depends on it! And we must remember, or rather, not forget about the popularization of entomology! We need to do this somehow. Yes, and one thing does not interfere with the other, I wrote - on Saturday evening in a cafe-bar, if desired. Let's have some vodka."..

By placement - I fully support omar's idea!

24.08.2009 17:32, omar

Here, too, everything is simple. How was it this time? Lists of participants are compiled, and just readers can throw off their desire to participate to one of the organizers in a personal account, say, Pasha, if they are ashamed to shine. I would still be afraid to make the entrance free for everyone, where is the guarantee that in the evening a group of teenagers who have drunk "Klinsky" will not come and start "feeling" the unfolded material? Therefore, entry is only by appointment. And you can still get to know each other better on the unofficial part, you just need to also pre-sign up for an inter-party meeting. Thus, there should be 2 lists-for the unofficial and official parts. If one of the Japanese also wants to become one of their own, I think no one will object too much. It is possible that some people will want to visit only the unofficial part, and someone will find bursa itself more interesting. We need to leave people the opportunity to make such a choice. As for biology schools, I'm all for it, since I've graduated from one of them myself in the past. Biology schools also need to sign up for the official part of the event.

24.08.2009 17:34, Pavel Udovichenko

Another subtlety. In Europe, it is forbidden to start exchanges (officially and this is monitored) in the hall before the opening. It's just that people are offended that all the most interesting things go to them. Naturally, it is impossible to prevent small internecine fights, and it is not necessary, but still I would like not to introduce this into the system.

Teenagers with "Klinsky" I take on myself... this won't be a problem. Invited guests will come, but.... with their wives, children, and acquaintances. Still, many people will be offended that they were not invited to an official event. Which one of us will take on the role of judge?

24.08.2009 17:41, Pavel Morozov

It seems to me that the congress and the burza CAN be held together.
Simply, the event can be divided into two parts: the exhibition and fair and the actual conference. As a frequent participant in a number of medical forums, I can suggest such a scheme - the chosen building should ideally be suitable for both a fair and a more "close meeting of participants". For visitors (and in any case, there will be specialists, pioneers, onlookers, and parents with children), it will be necessary to prepare a sector for organizing cofee-break, where participants and visitors can take a break and pull a coffee cup with a pie maker (u Zlate Praze instead of coffee and sweets - beer and sausages).
Well, a separate hall with a "tea party" - for participants of the congress / forum / burza.

In particular, this is how the annual All-Russian congress on restorative medicine is held in the City Hall on Novy Arbat. Thematic symposia are held in the conference halls, an exhibition is organized in the circular lobby (who has been there, knows what I mean), and a private party is held in the banquet hall.

By the way, if you give the congress a good touch of a scientific conference, it would probably be interesting.

Great idea for Morozzzzzzzzzz! Work out a little, correct, expand and deepen, trim a little and go! The planned location allows you to!

24.08.2009 17:46, omar

Pasha, I understand that. But for now, the European system will not work. When Ripper stayed with me for a whole month last year, I just left him the keys to the apartment and went to work. Wouldn't I be offended if some Japanese guy beat me to bursa and took all the fun out of him first? wink.gif In addition, I am mostly interested in small non-walking beetles. But for commercial groups that are interesting to the absolute majority, it may be necessary to introduce any restrictions.

Of course it won't, but we are striving! And I'm not saying to ban it, but not in any case! Just try to go to it!

24.08.2009 17:55, Pavel Morozov

And here it's simple: if you don't come alone, warn them in advance.
however, if someone came spontaneously, H. Z. is already reminded of the stormy student self-activity. I was lucky enough to participate in amateur film festivals and perform on the stages of the FSB Recreation Center, the Column Hall, and even the Rossiya State Concert Hall. There, a preliminary list of all the backstage people who (some just for free) went to the event was compiled. These people often played the role of "messengers", thus justifying their presence.

In general, so that no one is offended later, and no one feels left out, you just need to estimate the number of visitors, which is not easy, but possible. After all, those who visited the first Moscow burza in February 1999 will confirm that there were a lot of "uninitiated" visitors.

Scientific content should be reserved for visitors from biological schools and students. This is if we are still going to promote entomology. And it can also work well in terms of advertising the event, if we want the public to evaluate us not just as "a market where they sell dried cockroaches".

I consider it necessary to speak out as a person who bore the brunt of the previous congress.

I fully support the idea of Entoterra.About a year or two ago, I wrote on this forum that Moscow is not worse, but better for holding similar European events. Not knowing,at that time, that the fair was already being held.My goal was to attract more people.Promote the idea of congresses for 5-6 years, eventually bringing it to the European level. Thanks to Entoterra, time is significantly reduced. And the level of performance is quite decent.

I do not support the idea of dividing the congress and bursa.Guys, stop dividing into your own and others', good and bad, scientists and merchants!Entomology unites us all.
Now I want to speak about the implementation. All this is good,a circle of invited guests arrived, bought / exchanged and left.I still remember the faces, the stuff in the boxes. And that's it!.... and who knew about us?Again, it turned out to be a closed club.My suggestion is to advertise such an event.Attracting people who are far from entomology, but are interested in insects.Bursa / congress should also be an exhibition. The material is smoothed out and beautifully displayed. After all, it is not a problem to spread out and put up a couple of copies each. from the material for exchange/sale.Participants of the previous congress saw what Entoterra and Hemaris ' tables looked like.

Entrance to the exhibition bursa congress must still be paid.A small, symbolic amount of 50-100 rubles, I think, will cut off the guys with "Klinsky".For children under 12 years of age-free of charge.

Participants (not guests) should be marked with signs. This is why you need a pre-registration.

I fully agree NOT to conduct preliminary exchanges.I myself was a supporter of this at the previous congress. And to be honest, it even annoyed me a little, when there is something to do,there is still plenty of time before the opening, and the people are already changing with might and main. This problem can be solved in this way: everyone can pre-exchange a LIST of content, which can significantly reduce the search time.

A boutique with light snacks, drinks and beer is essential.

Well, for those who need more socializing and drinks-after the congress, you can arrange everything. Not BEFORE, but AFTER.Go for a picnicar
estaurant. You see, and Omar's best friend will be a specialist in micro beetles Osaka Suwanishi and he will not need anyone but him and they will go to the nearest sushi bar.smile.gif

Ideas will continue to be born, and I will put them up for your sud

Thaler, everything is great, but micro beetles are hard to spot even to a family by a quick eye. What kind of lists can we talk about?! This is not karabus and not Parnassus, where everything is at least clear up to the subgenus. There, in addition to an experienced eye, you need optics, a minimum of domestic binoculars. How can Dorcadion, having come down from the mountains and just arrived in Moscow, know what is in his backpack?! That is why we need minimal initial preparation before bursa. Any questions? I have already mentioned the restriction on commercial groups.

25.08.2009 23:24, Pavel Udovichenko

So, today we held preliminary negotiations with the sponsor. The sponsor
gives the go-ahead and is interested in holding the event at a decent level and in a decent place. We all understand that the event is still a year away, but I think only force majeure can influence his decision. Yes, anticipating future questions.... The sponsor DOES NOT ASK for any preferences, honors, or other signs of attention. The event will be prepared by the organizing committee based on the funds provided and funds received from the sale of tables.

That's right, it's time to start preparing, and it's very good that there are already promotions! Thank you Pasha for taking care of this!

I also liked the 3rd congress - it's not too bad! And moving to a higher level would be great!

Holding in Moscow, in my opinion, is the most convenient.

That's great!

Gentlemen and ladies, colleagues and friends!!!
We are not lost,we are working.Of course, the main(practical) part fell on the shoulders of Entoterra, from my side at the moment only ideas. We are working on them.
Maybe the topic will subside a little, but I'll bring it to life from time to time.
What is required of you-
First of all, participation!
Second, who wants to open the table(1000 rubles) let them inform you about this in advance. To know about the number of tables.Let me remind you that in our plans, the money for withdrawing tables will go to the participants ' meals.Registration for the tables is made in advance.

01.09.2009 17:07, omar

How big will the table size be?

01.09.2009 18:05, Pavel Udovichenko

As I understand it, the meeting continues spontaneously! It pleases!
There are two options: 1 meter, as is customary in Europe, or two for the first time. But, the question is whether you can fill 2 meters so that there are no "holes" in the exposition.

01.09.2009 21:07, RippeR

err.. something I don't understand.. 1000 rubles per table will go to the participants ' meals? 0_o
in my opinion, it is necessary for everyone to throw off the food supply, as this time, and the money for the tables (for those who will make expositions and sell material)will go better to the organizer?

What about the exchange space? We need empty tables where everyone could sit and sort out the material from mattresses, etc. We can throw ourselves together on such tables - from those who will not make an entire exhibition and sell it.

02.09.2009 8:55, omar

Pasha, that's what I think. Perhaps for the first time we will be very good to have two-meter tables. Because there will be a large percentage of people who do not need a separate table, and to order a large table for three is the most important thing. Yes, and the money is more profitable. Many people will not sell, but they will be happy to change, find out what others think about their captures, and perhaps determine something along the way. Such tables with palearcts on mattresses can also be beautifully decorated. Good macro photo of mattresses, binoculars on the table. Surely many Europeans, tired of the tropics, will turn to them with interest. If at all intourists can be attracted to this event rolleyes.gif

still. If we want to attract a lot of public attention, it's not a bad idea to organize a city day convention.

I support the event.

ready to take a couple of tables under microscopes.

I may be able to provide stereo microscopes for the participants ' work. not 10-k of course, but several pieces can definitely be organized.

or it is possible to organize a place where anyone can come to see their samples, take photos, etc. there are several such places (depending on the number of participants and the demand for this service)

while such thoughts. what came to mind at first.

2 omar.

on stereo microscopes according to the Grenoux scheme, magnification up to 420x is possible.
on Abbe stereo microscopes, up to 450x is possible.

I fish in the Ivanovo region directly near Ivanovo (outside the city of course, though not far away), as well as in the Shuisky district (I have a dacha there in the village of Krasnoarmeyskoye).Especially a lot of fishing in the Shuisky district. The area,I must say, is really poor (unless, of course, you count one specimen of C. myrmidone, one Parnassius apollo and two Melanargia Russiae, which I caught just in the Shuisky district). However, these are just isolated cases, and the fauna in the Shuisky district really leaves much to be desired.I also caught one summer in the village of Khlyabovo in the Rodnikovsky district, where the fauna is better than in the Shuisky district, but not by much.

Thank you so much for telling us about the Drought on the border of the Nizhny Novgorod region. In the coming season, I plan to buy a generator, and they will wander around the expanses of the Ivanovo region in search of various interesting representatives of the nocturnal fauna (unfortunately,we can't count on more yet).I'll also try to stop by Serzukh.
