Yuri, what's going on out there right now? and to what extent did this affect your usual gathering places? Judging by the reports of agencies, the situation is generally difficult; but more specifically? And are you all right yourself?

On this link http://www.orbita.co.il/ there are all Israeli news sites
and major portals. The main theme is the Mount Carmel fire. Better read
than I describe.
The fire yesterday (02.12.2010) was visible from my window, and I photographed it
when I went with a friend to the Kishon River to check the traps. No one could have imagined that there would be so many victims. Today, the police found a bicycle with
a wig and fire material in the Tsur Shaloma district. They suspect a terrorist attack.
The police ask you to report all suspicious cases. And this is just my area, including the forest in Kiryat Ata, which is already full of police, and after such a fire, it's better not to meddle. They'll be detained overnight. I'm going to Malkiah, a kibbutz on the border with Lebanon, for 2-3 days. Maybe it'll fly in at night. 12 years ago, at this time, I received an entomological shock from seeing new species.
07.03.2010 I posted some photos of the city of Carmel in " Reports” Adding more. These landscapes are no longer there. Now it takes 20-25 years to restore the forest. It was a nice place.
I just read that two arsonists seem to have been detained..
Thank you for your concern.

The area of the Allancastria cericy speciosa population has completely burned out.The butterfly is endemic to Israel, and specifically to East Carmel. The subspecies speciosa is not found anywhere else in the world.Allancastria cericy speciosa is no more than 10 days old at the beginning of April.
In general, as with the Thai butinitis, the population also died due to a forest fire
. Now only a photo of the capture and its biotope has been preserved. But as Yuri said, there is no such biotope anymore

Pasha, don't rush to bury the population. I often have fires along the Oka River at the Polyxena station in the spring, but kirkazon and Polyxena somehow survive. Let's hope so.

In the Mediterranean, area fires are historically frequent (very dry), most likely both plants and insects have developed protective mechanisms.

Beetles in the state of imago in this period of time can not be found in open spaces (on trees, on the ground, etc.) Those who "overwinter" - under rocks and in burrows - can escape. Another thing is the laid eggs on the leaves, under the bark...

We'll see. It will be interesting in a couple of years to see what kind of species will be there, which of them will survive.

Yes, I have about 30 pupae of her.I decided for myself-I release everything.A friend also has about 20.I also agree with you.Another thing with kormovukha. In March, I'll go look for food, if I find it, I'll leave the pupae. You also need to invest in nature, and not just your brother
