Armenia - August 2011?

Community and ForumTravel and expeditionsArmenia - August 2011?

headshotboy, 25.05.2011 0:13

It may not be here, but being a kakgbe-beologist smile.gifand personally acquainted with some of the local inhabitantssmile.gif, I will try here. If something happens, don't shoot smile.gif

I want to go to Armenia in mid-August, for a couple of weeks or so (no more work will allow). Places - I haven't really decided yet, but I want to drive through different landscapes. Once upon a time - a very long time ago - I was in Ijevan, in the forests, in the dry steppe in the Khosrov Nature Reserve, in Syunik, in Arevik, Essno, in Yerevan (but Yerevan hardly countssmile.gif).
The trip is purely "wild", to see the country, while the "base + radials" scheme is supposed, but this is for now.
Approximately-by plane to Yerevan, then - either stop, or take a car, or transport (trains, minibuses...), get up where it is convenient.

I really want to see something specialized, if possible-smile.gifI'm not an entomologist (although I was once very fond smile.gifof it), but I will help with the process with great pleasure, without claiming the results smile.gif

While I'm going alone, I would like to find a companion who is close in spirit, if someone wants to join - we will be happy to discuss the details.

If you have any questions, I was recently in those parts-I will answer if possible. The trip was also very wild, (I didn't catch it) all passing through in a week (hitchhiking), so I don't get into experts, but I can say that it's beautiful, the people are good, it's worth a visit.
1-Near Goris-the May riot of nature.2-Blooming of never-before-seen blue flowers( mountains, Georgia).(gentian?)

Somewhat not on the entomological topic, but about Armenia. As you know, in addition to insects, this country is also rich in landscapes. Here are some photos from the last trip, taken in different areas.

Sorry - the question about "what is where" is mine, but for some reason I couldn't log in from the pipe...

The standard question is: how and when did you shoot it?

04.07.2011 12:15, Victor Gazanchidis

June 2011. Canon EOS 450. Different objects, mostly shirik.

Judging by the photo, June is still late spring?

Yes, everything was fine - I haven't visited the resource for a long time... It's interesting that the weather played into my hands - due to the cold May by the time of arrival (August) not everything was burned out.
There was even some plague procerus eek.gifin Shikahoh, although I understand they should have been gone for a month by then...

Now I want to try to go again-purposefully to the south, Meghri-Goris. m. b., it will be too late - but it's impossible to get out earlier at all...

If it is very interesting - I will try in more detail, but, to be honest, it will be a solid offtop, because entomosabzh somehow retreated before peaches, mulberry moonshine, etc. small joys of zhyzni shuffle.gif cool.gif wink.gif

Post photos of the adit?

I would like the light to draw true landscapes, without artificial photo sketches.

Before leaving, I thought about whether or not to take the camera, but in the end I decided not to take it for the first time - I took a soap dish, which I sometimes regretted later. On the other hand, crawling on all fours on scree with a heavy DSLR is also somehow not always convenient...

This is what it looked like at the time of arrival:IMG_1042.JPG

The grass on the slopes was completely burned out, only alpine meadows bloomed somewhere from 2800m and above: IMG_1923.JPG

The same procerus: IMG_3049.JPG

The trees are overgrown with lichens - very impressive: IMG_3235.JPG

The wasps were bitten to build a nest, it seems, in a hollow post of a metal fence - I can hardly imagine what the temperature is inside, or the nest itself is still in the soil. But, nevertheless, a couple of "fans" are constantly on duty at the entrance: IMG_2931.JPG

Goris, rocks and landscape: IMG_3674.JPG

Bolivarian Republic of: IMG_3493.JPG

Ukhtasar, petroglyphs: IMG_4096.JPG

A peculiar place, cool, foggy. The silence was absolutely fantastic, and I mistook the hum of the tongue for the distant sound of a car engine.

In the same place, larkspur: IMG_4138.JPG

There were two or three tongues constantly circling around her, and I think it was a gemaris - I never knew who it was, a plump hawk moth with a dark overall color and transparent wings. Yazykany hovered, allowing themselves to see, but this UFO-no, just swung back and forth, circles and zigzags.

The lake is more like a puddle than even a pond: IMG_4104.JPG
The banks and bottom are large rubble, there is no sediment as such, and some beetles, beetles like coryx and tadpoles hide very quickly in this rubble. The water is very cold, but insects and tadpoles are active. Caddisfly larvae and, apparently, freckles are crawling on the rocks. There is no submerged higher vegetation, along the banks - sedge, buttercups, something else.

Actually, I had a very good trip... We need to repeat it... smile.gif

Apparently, I will get ready - from about 29 - 30.04 to 08-09.05. I want to go south this time, for now - on the route Meghri-Goris, to see what it looks like at the beginning of summer...

If fellow travelers are formed , I will be happy to discuss possible cooperation smile.gif

18.04.2012 12:13, Dracus

Wow! I didn't know that there are freshwater crabs in Armenia.
The first mantis-larva of Iris polystictica.

18.04.2012 12:34, Zlopastnyi Brandashmyg

Dybka-Saga ephipiggera.

Oh, I wish I could bring them back alive... But this is already in tcmu breeding/maintenance.

18.04.2012 15:18, headshotboy

2 Dracus: potamonids are found all over Transcaucasia, two or three species. And, in general, quite massive. Large males can be almost the size of a man's palm-impressive animals smile.gifdo not like them locally (the claws are strong, and crabs grab their legs in the water very noticeably) and push, but there are still more crabs smile.gif
Bogomolchik-yes, butterscotch. I was surprised by the presence of larvae in August, but, apparently, the rain and cold of the first half of summer are to blame. Goris and further south were full of adults, but Garni was mostly full of larvae.

2 Zlopastnyi Brandashmyg: Yes, a spectacular beast, and the color options are different - more green, more yellow, more colorful...
But they, infestations, usually sit in the crowns of trees-males yell, females do not yell. They are rarely found on bushes and soil, and the bushes there are such that, to put it mildly, you will think a hundred times before climbing into them. Hold it-a tree gracefully intertwined with brambles...
Therefore, I don't understand how to take them yet.
And you need to catch it just before leaving, or keep it somewhere before that. To carry boxes with live dybkami in a backpack in 40-degree heat is not a coward, they will just die, and that's all. Pitifully.
