Dear colleagues and everyone who cares!

The director of the Leningrad Zoo, I. S. Skiba, decided to disband the Insectarium department, which will lead to the actual destruction of the collection collected by the department since its creation (end of 2008), which includes about 100 species of invertebrates and more than 70 species of amphibians.
Based on the department's work with collections of amphibians and invertebrates, significant progress has been made in breeding rare species, four expositions (temporary and permanent) have been created, more than 10 scientific and popular scientific works have been published, and unique, unique classes for preschoolers and younger schoolchildren have been developed.
We ask you to prevent the commission of such a "crime" against animals and all those visitors, their children, who have enjoyed visiting our exhibitions, expositions and classes.

Stupid decision. By developing an insectarium, it would be possible to create an exhibition of fluttering butterflies, large exotic beetles, etc., which greatly attracts visitors to zoos. Plus growing forage crops for terrariumists. Quite a profitable business in the West. The director is a narrow-minded person. I will write to him and to the specified addresses.

In LenZoo there is an exotarium, there are some parallel exhibitions of reptiles and besps - and there is this very insectarium.

Without knowing the background, it's hard to say anything.

M. B., the director is indeed richly gifted, but alternatively, and decided that butterflies do not bring money and well, they are figs. This is the simplest option, but not the only one, in such positions stupid people are not uncommon, but not mandatory.
M. b., the insectarium occupies some wildly cool mansion, which the director decided to push to the left at the market price-only somehow it is doubtful.

Perhaps the management stupidly decided to reduce the staff by merging departments - because the difference between an exotarium and an insectarium is not so obvious, given that you can also keep besps in an exotarium. And another department is another boss with all the money due. Not with a personal Mercedes and a dacha in Komarovo, essno, but also a zoo-not a bank.

Another option is the usual squabble at the trough between the heads of departments, during which the insecticide head in the competition merged, and now, not wanting to part with their posts and jobs, tries to attract extras.

Everything is possible.

You can also recall the history of the Moscow dolphinarium.
