Dear colleagues!
Today we said goodbye to the Teacher and Scientist Ivan Dmitrievich Mityaev. Human and Entomologist with a capital letter. In 1970. Ivan Dmitrievich
defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Biological Sciences on the topic
"Cicadas of the southern part of Kazakhstan" and from 1972 to 1994. He successfully managed the Entomology laboratory of the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, being the head of the laboratory for more than 22 years. In January 1995, he became a leading researcher at the Institute and was later appointed Chief Researcher at the Institute of Zoology.
Ivan Dmitrievich was a man for whom crystal-clear honesty, decency and accuracy were not just an empty word, but a matter of principle. As an excellent field worker and organizer of scientific expeditions, he was remembered by all zoologists of Kazakhstan.
During the faunal and taxonomic studies of cicadas in Kazakhstan
, Professor Mityaev described more than 150 species, 2 subgenera and 2 genera of cicadas as new taxa; thanks to his research, the faunal list of cicadas in Kazakhstan has grown from 35 to 1069 species. He has published more than 110 works on the history of Kazakhstan, including 8 monographs.
In the memory of people who knew Ivan Dmitrievich, he will forever remain a model of morality, high intelligence and humanity...
