Kazbek Karaev, head of the Russian national fencing teams, shared the sad news. He published the corresponding news on the social network Facebook. According to him, it is known that Vladimir Aleksandrovich Ganson died last night. What exactly caused the death of the outstanding entomologist, athlete (Honored Fencing Coach of the USSR) and participant of the Great Patriotic War is still unknown.

Ganson is one of Anatoly Tsvetaev's students and closest colleagues. He was a major expert on the taxonomy of Palearctic butterflies of the Rhopalocera group, mainly of the family Pieridae (including the genus Colias). He was an illustrator of a number of entomological publications, including color illustrations of lepidoptera in the identification of insects of the USSR by G. N. Gornostaev. He took part in a number of lepidopteran collecting expeditions in various regions of the former USSR, including Central Asia: the Hissar Range, Turkestan Range, Western Pamirs, Kirghiz Range, Shamsi Gorge, etc.

Here's another message from my friend Andrey Timchenko::

Colleagues,

Heavy loss - I was informed at night that Vladimir Alexandrovich Ganson had passed away.
Bright memory to him, our patriarch!

If you can take part in the farewell, please also take my bow.
Daughter-Marina Vladimirovna -

8-499-189-75-87 house. Vladimir Alexandrovich
8-916-6681682 (number of the deceased), with his daughter.

You need to create a topic about him on the forums, honor his memory, write about his life.

Sincerely,
Andrey T.

Very sad news.

I met Vladimir Alexandrovich "fleetingly" - I saw him once at a meeting of the entomological section of the MOIP many years ago. We talked briefly. I was a beginner in butterflies at the time, and I started telling him about polyxene: what a rare species it is... He smiled. He said that rare species should be looked for in Central Asia. He advised me to go there. Maybe it was at his suggestion that I went there, on one of my first expeditions. Bright memory to him!

Sanych... A man of colossal charisma, phenomenal memory, and encyclopedic erudition... A real man, the brightest Personality... Teacher... I was lucky to be together with him on a number of expeditions (Hissar, Zaalai, Eastern Pamir...) ... Unforgettable... I am proud of the fact that he ,in his own words, "harbored" me...
Those were probably the last days, but the Days of Real Entomology and Real Entomologists...
I just don't see Sanych in the glamorous and bullshit scenery of the current Paraentomological Cherkizon...
May he rest in peace...
