Kazbek Karaev, head of the Russian national fencing teams, shared the sad news. He published the corresponding news on the social network Facebook. According to him, it is known that Vladimir Aleksandrovich Ganson died last night. What exactly caused the death of the outstanding entomologist, athlete (Honored Fencing Coach of the USSR) and participant of the Great Patriotic War is still unknown.
Ganson is one of Anatoly Tsvetaev's students and closest colleagues. He was a major expert on the taxonomy of Palearctic butterflies of the Rhopalocera group, mainly of the family Pieridae (including the genus Colias). He was an illustrator of a number of entomological publications, including color illustrations of lepidoptera in the identification of insects of the USSR by G. N. Gornostaev. He took part in a number of lepidopteran collecting expeditions in various regions of the former USSR, including Central Asia: the Hissar Range, Turkestan Range, Western Pamirs, Kirghiz Range, Shamsi Gorge, etc.
